Regarding the traditional FMA uniforms... I'm pretty sure I saw I&I sports selling the traditional vests. You can take a look at their online catalog at: http://www.iisports.com They got a whole lot of other stuff too. I usually carry a "tactical folder" clipped to one of the pockets on my right side, and I wear a just past the butt length jacket, so the process of drawing and opening has more steps than usual, since I have to move the lower edge of the jacket. For me, this means extending the range at which I consider personal space incursion threatening." My questions are why a folder at all if self-defense/radid deployment is a primary consideration? How do you deal with the gloves? What, besides cosmetics, makes a folder "tactical"? Personally, I only carry a single Benchmade Panther. This model has a small stud on the left side for a right handed draw and opening. If I'm wearing a coat, I carry it in my right slash pocket wear I keep my hands to keep warm. I wear gloves, but with the stud, I can still get the blade started opening so that I can just flip it open when it clears the pocket or slowly open it while pulling my hand out naturally. When I take my coat off, I transfer my knife to my back pocket (lost the clip a while ago). Then, I'm back to where I normally am. I've always looked at carrying a knife in this way. Carry one usable knife, you can claim it as a tool or pocket knife. Carry two, better have a good excuse for it. Carry more, LEO might not believe any story you come up with if you have to use them. I don't know about anywhere else, but around here, if you are carrying a fixed blade and its not hunting season, coming up with a convincing reason other than paranoia is going to be tough. Could any LEOs out there in list land tell me if this legal paranoia on my part is warranted or not? This is my first post here. I’ve been following the suggestion on the FAQ and checking things out for the last couple weeks. I felt I’d like to contribute to a recent inquiry. me: Welcome Mike. Don't know if you remember me or not, but we trained at GM Manaois together one Saturday. Hope to work out with you again soon. - -Myles - -------------- Myles Watling MANAOIS ESKRIMA SYSTEMS INTL. stickfighter@hotmail.com Checkout the MSI homepage at: http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Park/7222/ ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ From: "Jon K Curtis" Date: Mon, 25 Jan 1999 15:47:41 -0500 Subject: eskrima: Knife retention Do any of you guys practice knife retention techniques? Well, I have. Grew up on a farm near St. Louis (lots of big turtles in the ponds, plus water mocassins; the ducks were mighty mean, too) then moved to an undeveloped area near Sacramento just loaded with big Diamondbacks. Hunting this stuff (dumb kids with staffs or bows and arrows) made for an interesting childhood .... Anyway, as some of Professor Chow's students told me the old man used to say: Animal styles are for animals, but I'm a human being, so I fight like one. Just to keep this in perspective .... ;) Jeff "Stickman" Finder stickman@autobahn.org ------------------------------ From: Date: Sun, 24 Jan 1999 16:59:25 -0800 Subject: [none] Please note: Kombat Instruments Limited will carry stickbags and metal practice knives beginning in mid-February.
