I am not sure of your level of medical training and I mean no disrespect. I am writing this with the assumption that some on this list have little or no training. I am certain you have heard of the body's autonomic response system. This is something that occurs which we have little (read: almost none if any) control over. Two examples: 1) When exposure/Hypothermia sets in (significant heat loss) the body reduces blood flows to the extremities, including the head. The purpose is to maintain the body's core temperature. 2) When the human body enters a very cold body of water it is possible for the mammilian diving reflex (Legs contract into the fetal position, chin tucks into the chest) to occur. At this point the resipiratory system may entireley cease. You asked if this makes sense. I don't know if it makes sense (I didn't design the system and I wasn't consulted before, during, or after construction) but I do know that this what occurs. Remember I never said blood flow ceases to the brain I said it is reduced. In a way it does make sense. People have been known to live for years in a coma, after a severe blood loss or head trauma. As for the subdural hematoma you mentioned, nice try no cigar. A subdural hematoma causes increased pressure, if anything blood loss would cause decreased pressure. Just my humble opinion Sticks _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Top Dog calls Guro I. "Danny" to his face and there is no disrespect meant or taken. TD knows him from the 70s and back then "Danny" was a common usage. But as I saw it, Rocky was out trolling for people to annoy ("Dick Head- meaning he who speaks the truth" a reference to his earlier rant) and so I played a bit of "tit for tat"-- by writing in a way that was designed to annoy him. Was this mature? Of course not-- but it was great fun to get a rise out of him. And, I must confess, my starting point was not so different from his-- boredom. My training for the Gathering had been going very well and then I got a flu that cost me 6 days of training and even now I cannot bring the zip to my training that I would like for fear of relapsing. So I had to cool my heels while fight day approached and, well, got cranky and bored and along came a juicy bone of an opportunity to gnaw on. For the record, I think Rocky is pretty f#%^&g funny. When Neil walked into his trap, his reply was hysterical. Top Dog was over last night and we fell off our chairs reading it. When I say "jester" it is a genuine compliment. The jester is an important archetype and among other things serves to bust pomposity and hot air balloons. In the Dog Brothers it is "Hot Dog" and we are the better for it. Every group should have one and this list is better for Rocky's unique brand of merriment. Also, for the record I suspect he is a genuine fighter-- there are cogent observations sprinkled in his posts that do not come from armchair warriors-- and any white boy who can hang at Kronk's has gotta be some kinda tough. But when ya tat, ya gotta know you might get titted. But I suspect that it may be time for this merry interlude to come to a close and get back to FMA. FMA is not a matter of life and death-- its much more important than that ;-) Woof, Crafty PS: A story with a moral in it somewhere: Guro I. told me that someone recognized him this weekend in the bathroom at the airport as he was taking a whiz and came up to shake his hand , , , , , ------------------------------ From: Date: Tue, 20 Apr 1999 18:46:39 EDT Subject: eskrima: Re: Inayan_Eskrima/FMA-Digest V6 #166 In a message dated 4/20/99 3:04:13 PM Eastern Daylight Time, eskrima-digest-owner@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com writes: << I believe a pinoy is a Filipino of the male persuasion. >> Well I hope there's no Filipina's of the male persuasion ;) Well let's not go there... It seems to me that if some of the members of this post would spend more time training and less time crying on the digest worrying about what everyone is saying we would have less problems on this list. It is easy to hide behind a computer and call people names, how many are brave enough to say it to someone's face,I know the Rock is(I'm sorry that is Mr Rock). Maybe we should all rethink about what is appropriate for communication both on and off the Digest. PS I was also at that breakfast with Remy and Ted and Rocky did address them by there God given names. Vunak was speaking to the "Joe Generic" kind of martial arts guy who thought he would take a knife slash on the forearm to reverse- one-punch-one-kill kind of fantasy. Such an individual would probably freak upon getting a good look at the bones of his forearm. As for me, I would freak and probably shriek (sorry Alan S. ;-} ) at the mere sight of one coming at me.
