Adding to the fires is the lawsuit against Columbine High School. Schools, liable for the actions of the students? Yep, the precedence has been established. As has been discussed on this forum before, legal actions in one state tend to have cascade effects in others. These two precedents are why I say this issue is now roosting on our doorsteps as martial arts instructors. It is a short step from publishers of dangerous information and schools to putting the two together and saying "What about suing martial art schools for the misuse of what they teach?" ME: The above statement about the "Hit Man" book just brings up the previous debate of whether or not MA instructors should sell Martial Arts Knife Fighting Tapes etc..... Looks like we will never resolve this sort of dilemma no matter how we look at it. I am still so confused! Also, what ever happened to that New Jersey Law that was supposed to control the Martial Arts? What is the latest on that one? I believe the bill was not passed. Am I right? Check the history of the philipines. During the Spanish occupation private citizens (read non- hispanic natives) were not allowed to own any weapons. thats why they had to practice in secret and incorparate the arts into other things ie. dance. >I don't believe Joe > should be allowed to own > landmines, flamethrowers, or fully automatic > weapons. Private citizens can't own these things. >I happen to have a lead > weighted hickory 'tire knocker' which I use to check > my tire pressure, just > like truckers use. Yes officer, I prefer this method > to a tire gauge ;-) ) You do on the other hand advocate pulling an end run on the law and hope to get away with a wink and a smile. Do you advise your students overtly or covertly to do the same thing? I hope you are more responsible then this. > The problem I have with pro-gunners is that they > lack the imagination to > avoid an all-out, balls-to-the-wall approach to > fighting any sort of gun > control, instead of using their voting power and > technical expertise to > come up with sensible legislation. It's much easier > to just use brute force > and take the "simple solutions to complex problems" The problem with you anti gunners is that you forget that we have the in alienable God given right to own these weapons. Read the 2nd ammendment and USCJ to understand this. You also stated that life liberty etc.. come before the ammendments. Your talking about to different documents. Make no mistake about it if guns are banned it is only the beginning ALL weapons will be banned. Remmeber the priest in the nazi death camp "When they came for the Jews I said nothing because I wasn't a Jew etc... When they came for me there was no one to speak for me." If this doesn't do it for you how about Benjamin Franklin "Gentlemen if we don't hang together we will all hang seperatley. For us the order would (in all seriousness) be more like this: Release the dog - a sweet loving creature, but she understands the difference between nice people and Bad Strangers. If that doesn't work one of us with the shotgun, the other with the .45 If they are in our house, can deal with 80 pounds of pissed-off German Sheperd, aren't deterred by a guy with a 12 gauge and a woman with a 1911 it has definitely commenced to get serious. I think any reasonable person would be in fear for their lives at that point with all that that legally implies. If the dog, and the deterrence, and a couple pounds of lead don't stop them it is time to switch to knives. If there's still a fight going on after that I'm not sure exactly what we'd do. Probably get garlic, wolfsbane, stakes, silver bullets and a priest. What you are dealing with at that point is probably a werewolf :-( ------------------------------ From: pjm@buffnet.net Date: Thu, 01 Jul 1999 20:08:06 -0400 Subject: eskrima: Re:Gun Control and Martial Arts It was eluded to that Gun control people might not stop at gun control and might go after the martial arts. In the book "Ninjutsu: History and Tradition" by Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi, there's a chapter on "Kunoichi" or female ninja. There's a picture of Mariko Hatsumi holding a persian cat. The caption reads: "Mariko Hatsumi carries a ninja dagger and smoke grenade beneath the cat in her arms. As well as concealing the ninja gear, the cat could also serve as a potent distraction when thrown into the face of an insuspecting intruder." - -- [=======================================================================] [ Roberto B. If not, and we can be sued for it, then everyone discussing taking out potential attackers with weapons/body tools had better duck and cover now 'cause we're gonna be knee deep in lawsuits...
