I know there's at least 1,000 people who wish you the following: May you have a speedy, uneventful recovery. You may already be aware of the book entitled "The Seven Minute Rotator Cuff Solution" or something like that. Marc recommended it to me years ago (is this a "geezer'" thing?). Let me know if you're interested in more details. If helpful, I believe it's readily found at your local mega-bookstore. Take care and keep us posted. John "Underdog" Salter ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Tue, 20 Jul 1999 14:43:15 -0700 (PDT) Subject: eskrima: videoclips of Angel Cabales For those interested in viewing videoclips of GM Angel Cabales flow sparring and taking lock & block, go http://www.martialartsresource.com, then the Eskrima side, then the FTP site and look for filenames AngelFS.mov and AngelLB.mov. There are also zipped versions of the files available. The footage is short (~20 seconds), but you can see how Angel moved in 1975. This is taken from the end of the video where Angel goes thru each of the 3 basic counters per angle. (Perhaps the first commercial FMA video???) The video itself is of poor quality, so the videoclip is really poor quality. You can't see what Angel looked like, but you can see how well he moved. More clips to come. Hopefully more of historical interest plus some short 'lessons' from your friendly Inayans. The problem is trainingtime and getting the most bang for the buck. Your trapping will work as there is no superior art IMHO. You need to understand it beyond the technique however. In the Inosanto way what level of trapping are you really at? Are you a phase 1 trapper (not to be confused with phase 1 Jun Fan class)? You will not be able to understand trapping and effectively use it well unto you are a phase 3 trapper with experience. Other arts are not so technique sensitive and can get you up to speed faster like boxing. The really neat thing about Inosanto Blend is you can use the trapping for example to set up the throws and grappling. And hey... who the heck says you can't Wing chun the crap out of a guy you have in the mount? You can bet that will screw up the guy who thinks of a pure BJJ responce. The key is to have understanding of the tools he uses and understanding of tools you can apply regardlesss of what those tools may be. For example to paksao his head from the mount and blend that technique into a head and arm choke. So you see it is not the shortcoming of trapping, the shortcoming is the understanding of the application of that particular tool. I have not seen Guro Suwanda in a long time. Last time I saw him "Fighting was cheating"...but I like the new corallary. Regards, Carlton H. Fung,D.D.S.
