I appreciate that there are confounding circumstances i.e. the arm movemnet itself, but still..." The Monadnock PR-24 "Prosecutor" was developed in 1972 by Lon Anderson = based on the tonfa. In a later interview Anderson made the statement = that the #1 reason for the PR-24 is defense. The #2 goal is offense. = Anderson believed that the straight baton was more appropriate for = offense than the PR-24. There was alot of misinformation, i.e.-"the = PR-24 strikes with 4-9 times more power than the straight stick" = However, this was proven to be untrue when scientific studies looked at = the power generated from various batons and striking methods. A 1988 = study by Mike Kerby for PPCT found that the "Futrell Power Stike" (a two = handed strike similar to a baseball bat swing. Which was used by the = LAPD on Rodney King) developed the most power which was less than two = time more than a traditional forward underhand strike. As a side note = research was done by BioDynamics for the Rodney King case on baton = impact energy transfer. I am attempting to get more info from this = study but I do remember that a traditional baton strike can hit with = over 1,000 foot pounds of energy. *Considering the fact that the knee = will blow with about 55 pounds of lateral force is interesting! Also = the person that was one of the hardest strikers in the BioDynamics = report was a female office staff member. Although she had no formal = martial arts training, she was a softball player who "got her hips into = the strike!" Personally give me my 24" ASP or PPCT Phoenix. ------------------------------ From: Allen Sachetti Date: Mon, 23 Aug 1999 13:37:01 -0400 Subject: eskrima: Pekiti-Tirsia Tapes Going Away X-Mozilla-Status: 0001 Message-ID: <37BC5848.C4@erols.com> Date: Thu, 19 Aug 1999 15:17:28 -0400 From: Allen Sachetti Organization: Datu X-Mailer: Mozilla 2.02 (Macintosh; I; 68K) MIME-Version: 1.0 To: eskrima-digest@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com Subject: Pekiti-Tirsia Tapes Being Discontinued Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Due to Tuhon Bill McGrath's concern that too much Pekiti-Tirsia technique is getting out commercially to too many people that he does not know, we have agreed to his request for us to discontinue the following Pekiti-Tirsia tapes.
