From the sound of it I would expect something along the lines of an angle 3 (forehand upward diagonal)." Sorry Mike simple answer is "caveman," baton loaded on the strong side shoulder, butt cap pointing forward at the suspect's eyes, baton swung down at diagonal (Angle #1) with palm rotating upward. Target is normally the outside or inside of the thigh (motor points). A forward fluid shockwave baton strike is where all forward energy of the baton has ceased before the officer retracts/reloads the baton for follow-up strikes. Remember this only applies to an officer armed with a baton attempting to control an unarmed suspect not stick fighting. KD ------------------------------ From: "Kevin Davis" Date: Thu, 26 Aug 1999 01:06:31 -0700 Subject: eskrima: PPCT Phoenix batons << Personally give me my 24" ASP or PPCT Phoenix. >> "can you give more info on the ppct - not familiar with it i already have a asp)" PPCT stands for Pressure Point Control Tactics Management Systems one of the largest law enforcement training organizations in the world. Several years ago PPCT began researching the use of synthetic materials (high tech plastics) in police tactical or expanding batons. The reason for this was to get away from the negative impact of hitting suspects with metal batons. The result was the Phoenix a "mostly" synthetic tactical baton. I like the newest version which is almost identical in appearance to standard metal batons used in police work today. The nice thing about the Phoenix is: it's lighter,it flexes on impact which transmits more energy into the target and it transmits less vibration into the officer's arm/shoulder than do traditional metal batons, IMHO. PPCT sold it's product division this year to Mixson which is headquartered in Florida and distributes throughout the US via it's distributors. E-mail me privately and I will dig up the number of a distributor in Cincinnati, Ohio I purchased some of their products from. Well, I've chanced upon someone who teaches a blend of MA's, FMA being one of them, in Lafayette, IN. >> Minor problem ... Lafayette isn't southern Indiana. It's central or northern ... several hours from anywhere that would be considered southern Indiana. << The teacher's name is Walt Hartwich. He teaches at Hartwich Martial Arts Academy. You can find out more info. by going to http://members.iquest.net/~hama. There's an e-mail address to contact Mr. Hartwich at the bottom of the page. >> However, I've met Walt on a few occasions. He's a great guy and a good martial artist. The only work I've ever seen from him is Doce Pares (this would be because all the times I've seen him have been at seminars with Cacoy Canete). If anyone is in the Lafayette area and interested in training, I would definitely recommend the Hartwich Academy. Mike __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Umm... Exemplary doesn't imply any specific moral or ethical base, just shows that the behavior is supposed to act as a model or example for others. Not to mention the fact that different cultures and peoples have different concepts of what's "right" and what's "wrong". The Dog Eaters seem to prize honesty and honor over peace, different from popular American culture where it's acceptable to lie through your teeth and insult everyone, so long as you don't start violence.
