I recently had to send the below to my instructor, sometimes even the wisest and the most trained need to learn things from others, sometimes we tend in life to forget that learning is a way of growing and what you teach is what others will get from you, that includes the attitude of yourself to your students as well as the training you give them. you must as well be there as an example He thanked me and said i should post it here as well so i have Thanks to all here for the insight and information i have obtained Johnaleen Castro Nature imitates herself. A grain thrown into good ground brings forth fruit: a principle thrown into a good mind brings forth fruit: Everything is created and conducted by the same Master....... the root, the branch. the fruits, .....the principles, the consequences. ------------------------------ From: Kel620@aol.com Date: Tue, 31 Aug 1999 19:27:37 EDT Subject: eskrima: Re: Congratulations Guro Denny Congratulations Guro Denny! I think you are 100% spot on!. Care to expand on the cultural differences as applied to giving out signals? Or is it going to be in the next book? May I suggest a video with re-enactments? Or is there one out already? I have seen the concept on a comedy show (It was something along the lines of how different ethnic groups back out of a fight). Given current multicultural environment such education would be helpful and probably unique. Now I am off to the mirror to practice my psycho look. Being too clumsy and feeble to fight and too slow to run away this may be better time spent than practicing head butts :-) Mike Koblic, Quesnel BC ------------------------------ From: Michael Koblic Date: Tue, 31 Aug 1999 20:34:11 -0700 Subject: eskrima: When it hits the fan... >The article related to a spate of robberies in New York where two people >would rob men in toilets when the trousers were down. LOL But seriously, SA is PRIMARY in any streetwise system. Some systems excel at developing this.Tony Blaurer's system comes to mind as probably one of (if not the) best.Check out www.tonyblauer.com Im not affiliated at all with Tony. Its just my humble:) obbservation. Hey but even us "stickfighters" need to get "mental" sometime! "I know this sounds psycho, but remember it's not what you can do that will determine if he attacks or not, but what he thinks you can do to him." Not psycho IMHO amigo. Reminds me of a huge dog that I used to growl and glare at to halt his charge. I growled louder and probably looked uglier than he did! I agree with all of the lead into your last statement ... but the attitude that I was talking about is the one that has some people thinking that there are no consequences for their actions, like they can do whatever they want and life is about what they want and think. Example, the guy who said "Pedestrians have the right of way" so it was OK for him to jaywalk through rush hour traffic and flip the fig at me for trying to alert him to the danger he was causing for both himself and others (motorists). Similarly a guy who confronted my wife and I I one day just because his wife wanted to use a public dryer that became unavailable to her because we used it while their stuff was still washing. Here's this fella woofing at me, increasing his woof factor :-) while I was standing and taking AFCK in hand saying "Leave us alone." Man I was eventually bellowin', snarlin', glarin'and shakin' and he still continued woofin'. If he'd taken another step towards us I might have done a regretful thing but I was on auto to protect my wife. After he'd exercised his 'tude he walked away saying "Man, you looked like you were gonna jump on me or sumthin'." He was Out Of Touch Big Time wouldn't you say?:-) Whether it's flipping the finger or getting in someone's face and barking at the wrong time or for the wrong reasons, empty attitude-driven actions can cause more trouble than they're worth. That's what I was getting at friend ... but thanks for the advice.
