Josh, I agree that the Marine Corps do offer top of the line fire arms instruction. How old are you now? You have been thinking about joining the corps for 6 years? Well if you feel strongly about it, then do it! I started out enlisting in the army and I went to college and the ROTC it hosted, now I'm an infantry officer. My rank is first lieutenant (and I'm on the promotion list to captain). I'm in the NJ Army National Guard I'm honoring my family's warrior tradition (Samurai bloodline, and mother's side related to Chiang Kai Shek). I'll be more than happy to return to active duty when opportunity arrives. My advice to YOU>>> 1.Josh Hutchinson knows what's best for Josh Hutchinson. 2. What will the corps give you other than firearms training. (There's more to life than weapons: like career, education, financial means to take care of family). 3. The corps is not the only branch. 4. If you have a BA/BS degree go officer route. Don't let anyone tell you different!!!!! If they are; they are bull$#%^$# u!!!!!! You have a brain make use of it. 5. I'm an officer and a gentleman. I will not lie to u about this. All recruiters are liars!!!!!! BE OBJECTIVE WITH WHAT THEY TELL U!!! 6. Good luck is your carrer plans. Feel free to mail me if you have any questions. Force Recon are a good bunch of guys in general. "Top of the line" firearms instruction-qualification? Where did you get this information? As a former US Army Special Forces soldier, certified as "Expert" in 24 small arms weapons systems, I am "just curious." 6 years is a long time to contemplate the lint in your navel, what is stopping you from throwing your hat in the ring to see if you can make it? Peace, good training and good health, John. ------------------------------ From: Ronald.Reekers@HSC.com Date: Thu, 16 Sep 1999 11:44:18 -0700 Subject: eskrima: Re: A.J.Advincula From: "Walter Vorhauer" [To anyone who knows or has info: I have recently been starting in the FMA (which is very different than what I'm used to compared to kung-Fu) and I was discussing with someone and the name of an instructor came into the conversation which didn't sound familiar. His name is A.J. Advincula. Does anyone know or have any background on this individual. I was told that he was an instructor in the late 80's. Any comments or info would be greatly appriciated.] Walter, For the past 10 years I've studied under the tutelage of Master Sam Dungca of the Kalirongan Largo Mano system past to him through GM Arsenio Advincula. Though most of my Largo Mano training is under M. Dungca, I have had the opportunity and honor to meet GM Advincula on a few occasions. He refers to me as "that LA guy". Most of the information I have here is through Sam. A.J Advincula is a retired Master Sergeant from the U.S. Marines who is a 2 tour combat veteran from the Vietnam war. A portion of his service was spent as a drill instructor specializing in K-bar and Bayonet techniques. Later he established a school near Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, California. GM Advincula began his study in 1946 under WWII Filipino Scouts Tony Navarro and Pete Rado. In 1960 he came under the tutelage of Loi Miranda in both the Largo Mano and Cinco Tero system. There are 3 videos available through Panther Video (IMHO every FMA should have in their library). Below is a URL which may help, as well as, Master Sam's e-mail address. http://www.olemiss.edu/orgs/karate largomano@aol.com Ron http://members.tripod.com/~thundercenter ------------------------------ From: "Marc Denny" Date: Thu, 16 Sep 1999 12:34:51 -0700 Subject: eskrima: Advincula A Howl etc: Walter asked about AJ Advincula. If I am not mistaken he is more known as an Owkinowan or Japanese stylist than FMA, but he does do Arnis. One of the first series that Panther Productions ever did was of him. As such, the production values were, by current standards, rather minimal. Each tape featured many combinations, but to be candid they were not too exciting. woof, Crafty ------------------------------ From: "Fox_hound @bolt.com" Date: Thu, 16 Sep 1999 13:50:38 -0700 Subject: eskrima: Weapons in California Are you telling me that it's illegal to carry arnis sticks around?
