My first experience with women >fighting when I was on the door was terrifying. I knew doormen that showed >no fear but would not get involved with women fighting and whether that >comes from their own inhibitions or the way women fight I don't know. > I wonder if for a man this is a no win situation: consider what you would do to a smaller weaker man who started scratching and biting you or such like. I suspect that you wold proceed to remove his teeth and re-arrange his anatomy without feeling too much guilt or wrath of bystanders ("the jerk was asking for it"). If on the other hand you tried to do the same to a woman under identical circumstances you would not come out smelling roses. Thus one would perhaps consider more restrained techniques with the result that one *might* sustain more damage than one would consider acceptable. Thus the smart policy in a catfight is to stay away. I think you may be mistaken. I've never seen Minerva in any of the kali classes there. As many of you observed, she would be hard not to spot in a small school such as that. The first time I ever saw her was at the gathering. From my vantage point Minerva didn't mingle with any of the FMA people, she stayed off to the side with her horse and her own group of people. If she's had any FMA training, Marc would be the one to know since he knows her best; the rest of us were just spectators. If she wanted or had any FMA training it would seem most logical that it would come from him. Respectfully, Case >> hey case - do you take Guro Ron Balicki's classes? cause not only is he my private instructor but also a very good friend - at the gathering, he told me minerva was in a few of his classes (maybe you missed that day?) he also told me he had train the other girl when he was in europe giving a seminar - and remember, it was ron (and diana) who actually the the bite (sans clothing) - ask ron for yourself if you take his class - or ask brenda or bobby - i'll admit i havent seen minerva at their school, but why would ron lie about it. steve ------------------------------ From: "Don Edwards" Date: Tue, 05 Oct 1999 10:22:48 GMT Subject: eskrima: re Sticks in NJ Magnus wrote: Does anybody know where I can buy good sticks in the New Jersey area. This is not gender prejudice, or my underestimating the person I was attempting to restrain; women are ferocious fighters, plain and simple. The worst injuries I ever witnessed when breaking up fights were among women, also. My partner and I always dreaded getting the call for assistance from the women's unit...we knew the potential for things to get very ugly ran much higher there than with the guys. Nothing was considered unfair or off-base, and bite wounds, deep scratches, and injuries with makeshift weapons were common. BTW, excellent post, Rocky, on the realities of combat. Your system looks like something I would like to investigate someday.
