Please get into contact with me, I am sorry for the inconvenience! I would also enjoy training, i need to put it back into my schedule. Salamat Pat ------------------------------ From: SReiter000@aol.com Date: Tue, 19 Oct 1999 20:47:21 EDT Subject: eskrima: De Leon Arnis Hi group- I just wanted to let you know about a little known yet extremely talented escrimador I recently had the honor and privilege of with/under - His name is Guro (Vergilio) "Jun" De Leon and is located in Toronto Canada. I first met him by way of some pekiti brother who just happen to meet him in the Phill. Then when I was visiting Guro Doug Marcaida he and I just went to meet him. He was extremely nice, and we had lunch (which he was kind enough to pay for) and that was that. He has known Guro Dan I for some time and was invited here for the recent instructors camp. I just so happened to be hanging around the academy and I bumped before the camp started. Him, his lovely wife and I had dinner and again talked all night. The next day he asked me if I wanted to work out, which really turned into him teaching me for a couple of hours one on one in a park. His skill is extraordinary. At 50, he (like most great MA's) can run circles around (I'm 40). There was so much about his skill that impressed me that it would take to long to describe - but let me relate the 2 things which impressed me most. 1) I barely felt his hand or any pressure as he disarmed me (during a free flow sumbrada), yet I was unable to stop it from happening. 2) while showing me some striking combo's he was swinging at what I believe was full force and speed. He was actually making contact with my head and face, yet the blows only felt like rain drops - it was like the demos of a guy who cuts apple in 2 on the top of someone's head without ever touching the guys head with the sword - Like guro Dan he is very humble and doesn't believe in any title other then teacher - however I've training under enough masters and grand masters to know one when I see one - I'm not sure of all his teachers and influences I know he's train with guro dan, and tuhon gaje', but I'm not sure to what extent. I also know he is good friends with Ernesto Pressis (sorry if I get the spelling wrong), but again I don't know really who his teachers where/are. I would strongly urge everyone to train with him if they get the chance to be in the Toronto area. He is a excellent teacher as well as practitioner - if he see's you doing something a little off - he'll tell you suck, and spend as much time as necessary working with you till you get it right. He has a web site under construction so you can book mark it and keep going back until it's up at www.arnisacademy.com - anyone who attend the recent camp at the I. Academy can attest to he skill. Steve ------------------------------ From: SReiter000@aol.com Date: Wed, 20 Oct 1999 01:21:54 EDT Subject: eskrima: Dan Inosanto's Book Just to let everyone who inquired about Dan's book; I asked him about it tonight in class, telling him about the buzz here in ED - and he said he was not going to release the book again - he said he felt it was dated and there where several things about the book he didnt like - It didnt sound like the reasons were for general consumption so i would repeat the reasons, but they were valid to me and they must be very valid to him. I mentioned some one wanting to scan and post a copy of his book for free and he had no response. De did how say he was in the process (although i dont know where in the process - i could just be planning stage for all i know) of writing a new book - he said he liked the format of salem assli's new savate book and thought he was going to do it much the same - he wasnt sure about the publishing - and salem and i both told him to self publish and sell through the net - he said "we'll see" - even though i see guro dan 2x week for 2hours p/day - it's still tough to pin him down to talk to him - there is still alot a vagueness - but thats the best i can do for now - will keep the digest posted if i hear anything more -- steve reiter ------------------------------ From: SReiter000@aol.com Date: Wed, 20 Oct 1999 01:25:45 EDT Subject: eskrima: ashey - e-mail me sorry for using this forum but.. ashly please e-mail - i lost your addy - guro dan told me something thats not for general consumption - that i want to pass along to you only - about the numbering system - sorry everyone, else but i cant betray a confidence - steve reiter ------------------------------ From: Philipp Hammer Date: Wed, 20 Oct 1999 08:04:03 +0200 Subject: eskrima: kali sikaran De Cadena Hey enthusiast of FMA I'm interested in some infos about the Cadena de Mano of Max Sarmiento and the Kali Sikaran of grandmaster Geronimo. First, is Cadena de mano same like De cadena ? I know the vvideos of Mike Inay, but i search more. Do you know some videos. Especially i would prefer something written. Are there books about these themes?
