Similarly some of the fancier western fencing stuff really isn't terribly useful for these weapons either. >> Yeah, I giggle when I watch fencers pick up Clyde too. >Burt also spent a lot of time emphasizing body mechanics, especially putting your hips into the swing to get the maximum amount of power. This proved invaluable. The blocks, deflections, and parries were also quite useful. I would say that I was able to use a hell of a lot more than 5% of what I'd learned but then, I was really only learning the basics at that time. I would like to point out that those "basics" are not exactly stressed everywhere however. You lucked out to find an instructor who did stress them. And by picking up a sword you discovered their true importance. >Have to agree with you here. I once saw a big guy name Royce go into shock when some short hairy psycho snapped his blade clean off. Hey!!! I resemble that remark!!! If it's still there after eight months it's probably not the nerve. Maybe she has injured the bone or snapped a tendon. Did she have an X-Ray of the elbow? Looks like we're off to a slow start back from the list being down. To start some discussion, I was wondering what king of training do the subscribers do when getting ready for a fight like the Gathering or even WEKAF or padded stick tournaments? Has fighting affected the way you train from before you started fighting? From what I've heard, the Attacking Block Drills used in the DBMAA sound like a nice way to train closing the gap, while Burton Richardson has some nice drills that works the long range jabs and evasion. This problem has been real drag. Every morning between 3:00 and 5:00 the pain wakes me up, I stretch, read, do some work, eat and if possible sleep for a few hours more. As the day goes on, things get better and by mid afternoon I'm fine. Then the next night the process repeats. I'm doing various things and am slowly getting better, but until things are further along writing for the ED will be held in abeyance. Grrr. My Cindy is back east with our son visiting the doting grandmothers and thus not much in the way of order filling will get done this month. And speaking of getting things done, the off-line edit on "The Grandfathers Speak" has begun (Pappy Dog is handling this for me) as well as for the first tape of the second DB series. Woof, Crafty Dog PS: Someone commented to me on the rapidity of Guro I's attainment of black belt in BJJ-- a mere 5 years. For the record, these 5 years averaged 7-9 BJJ lessons a week. 5 with Rigan Machado, 2 with Roger Machado and 2 with Renato Magno plus sundry others. The man is a stud! Here in Hawaii we only have Sports Authority and Champs and the selection is not too good. E-bay(sp?) has a nice glove that is a football padded lineman's glove made by Nike. It is a nice glove with a good grip and is a nice glove between street hockey gloves and barehands(baseball batting gloves) for anyone looking to make the transition but not quite sure if you want to take the risk. Forewarning, this does not offer too much protection but it does have a small line between broken and really, really, really sore. Remember the post about James' twice the normal size knuckle? That was with those gloves. Anyways, thanks for any info, and once again Happy Holidays. ===== "Draw me not without reason, sheath me not without honor" Chad Hawaii __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
