I just wanted to wish everyone on the List a very Merry Christmas and a tremendous New Year from the South Shore of Boston. Its in the 30's here, but quite sunny. No snow so far this year, so the only cross-country skiing I've done is on the NordicTrack :>(. Ahhh well...maybe soon. Anyhow, the posts have been quite provocative this past year and I can't wait to see what the new Millenium will bring to the ED. A bit unnerving when you >lose sight of your partners sticks. I love training at night under moonlight. For many years this was how I originally learned and trained. Just somthing about the spirits watching you after midnight. I didn't get the moonlight effect that you did but (I smoke cigarettes) somthing I do is train with a cigarette in my mouth. The smoke would drift into my eyes causing me to squint enhancing my other senses. Also because the smoke can go in your nose and inhaled the wrong way into your throat, I also learned how to control my breathing in a strange way. This was great!!! Now I had an excuse to smoke;1. Anyway, I don't advertise smoking, it's bad for you and all that stuff. >I also found that I could use the light to my >advantage by using pressing attacks and trying to maneuver him into >the light. What I usually like to do when we fight on Sundays is position the myself to have the sun behind me so I appear shadow like and have the sun in the other guys eyes. He he he. I'm interested in some good idea for sturdy limb targets that don't cost much and are easy to set up . A Wing Chun wooden dummy seems good, but they're linda pricey or require more wood craftsmanship than I'm able to do with my puny tool bench. So far, I've been hitting a heavy bag on which hang a pair of tires. Also, I've managed to stick a rubber-insulated metal bars to a table at waist height. Ideally, I'd like to work out with six limbs (centered in a free-standing body, a Left-Right pair stuck out and up at 45degrees to head level, a L-R horizontal pair at waist level and a L-R pair angled down to foot level at 45 degrees) to head level, a pair that stick out far enough to take stick hits and blocks. I hate to pile on more limitations, but my rental space doesn't allow for ceiling and wall fixtures. So, this deal should be free standing. What do you like for limb practice? ------------------------------ From: Eagle556@aol.com Date: Fri, 24 Dec 1999 20:30:28 EST Subject: eskrima: Re: Merry Christmas Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Fort Wayne, Indiana.
