Most of them require hitting to set up a takedown as well as the technique of the takedown itself to work. Thus, to my way of thinking, it is a good idea to have techniques that do not require hitting as part of your repertoire as well. >> I'll take the bait on this one ;) Granted there are a some throws and takedowns in silat that require you have some grasp on one of you opponent's arms or that their arm be extended (as in they just attempted to strike etc.) but there are plenty of throws and takedowns in silat that do not. There are throws where the hit is part of the motion to throw also. Nothing wrong with crashing as long as your opponent is the one that gets burned. I find the classification implies a limit when there isn't one. There a quite a few more throws and takedowns than just variations of Puter Kepala and Beset. I would to advise my 19 year old (just moved to Vancouver this month) who is interested in learning FMA or Indonesian Arts where he might look for instruction. Like every student everywhere his funds are limited far more than his interest is. You can reply by private e-mail so as not to clog the digest bandwidth. We just have to agree to disagree on this Mabuhay Jon ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Fri, 14 Jan 2000 07:04:36 -0800 (PST) Subject: [none] ------------------------------ End of Inayan_Eskrima/FMA-Digest V7 #17 *************************************** To unsubscribe from the eskrima-digest send the command: unsubscribe eskrima-digest -or- unsubscribe eskrima-digest your.old@address in the BODY of an email (top line, left justified) addressed to majordomo@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com.
