I was up late last night and was fliping thru the channels and came across the A&E channel. They had a program about the modern day Neo Nazi thrash and how they evolved from the old nazi scum. Man after about ten minutes of watching this crap makes me appreciate my training. These nut jobs are crazy, they hate everyone!!! And preach violence towards everyone. Man I'd be dead meat if they came to my school, my main core people consist of two black men ( with strong African beliefs ) a big southern type redneck, a Jew, and a German. This would drive them freaks crazy, and put me at the top of their hate list. I just don't get these people, all my guys get all just fine, of course I guess it comes with good up bringing. I am telling you though with freaks like this in our mist, we need to be training ....training .....training..... Crafty Dog-- You're guess that there are very few cultures that practice polyandry (the marriage of one woman to two or more men) is correct. There are a few societies taht practice this, but the only two I have personally read about are the Nyinba people of Nepal and the Nayar people of India. Peace, respect and an open mind. Ken McD submitted an article by a certain Matthew Sutherland on Filipino names. On first reading, my reaction was "Yeah, so?" However, it slowly dawned upon me that the author was not familiar (in all his six years) with the reasons behind the "naming conventions." Each name-type has a particular function, or is the product of evolution, or is a combination thereof. To wit:> Response: Your initial reaction should not have occurred since I prefaced my comment by stating that my wife is Filipina, there was no disrespect involved, and the article emanated out of the Manila Mail, a Washington, DC, newsletter. In fact this is what the editor stated (the editor is Filipino): "Editor's note: Matthew Sutherland's essay on the phenomenon called Manilla traffic got rave reviews among readers. Through his column, he hopes to give us glimpses into our own culture by writing about all things Pinoy from an expat's point of view." Additional response: I did not take your response personally. However, I believe you overreacted and missed the central theme, re: a light hearted look at a cultural phenomena. At least a few readers picked that up, you did not. My wife laughed about it and is is definitely Filipino. Hence, I appreciate your subsequent analysis but it misses the mark on what the author was attempting to convey. Nevertheless, I will clip and save your comments for more serious discussions when I visit Cebu next year. On the other hand, I probably won't use your comments since most of my Filipino in-laws will also have a light hearted laugh at the news article. Peace. Thanks again. Do you debate and question in an open fashion ? Also, if I subsequently disagree with you are you accepting of divergent thought. I was curious since I am new to the list and like to know what may occur. Thanks. Ken McD... __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Talk to your friends online with Yahoo!
