He didn't want > to fight. He didn't want to get hurt. Lets face it, most muggers, or whatever > you call them, are not interested in getting in a fight or risking serious > injury. If they have the impression that there is no way they will get your > money by taking you by suprise they would rather wait for the next easy prey > then to risk being stomped by an attentive and aware individual. In one of the latest videos I produced, the author mentioned something like: In the street, the fight starts before the attack. He will try to check out, if he has an opponent or a prey in front of him. He is not interested in an opponent, always and only only for a pray. Which is exactly the situation explained above. BTW, students of a student of mine here in Germany will do some travelling and they would be interested to do some training there. They will visit the following areas: Canada: Quebec, Angus, North Vancouver, Montreal, GB: North Yorkshire, Bristol, Newnham, Norfolk They practice Modern Arnis and they would be interested to meet other Modern Arnis practitioners, but any other FMA style would be fine too. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. We will have a semiar with Suro Mike Inay here in Essen/Germany at the 29th and 30th of May. Interested persons please contact me on private e-mail, so I can give more information. We will also produce more videos with Suro Inay and we plan to do one on "reactive knife", the system that has been discussed here on the digest a few months ago and one on "nerve techniques". I would like to ask the members of the eskrima digest, if these themes be the ones that they would like to see from Suro Inay or if you have other suggestions. Again, any response would be appreciated. And one last thing: end of last year we had a seminar with Professor Remy Presas in Frankfurt /Germany. There were about 130 participants and Jeff Delaney, 4th Dan from Texas, Tim Hartman, 5th Dan from new england and David Hoffman, 5th Dan, from new england, at the moment in old England ;-) attended the seminar. The Professor was in geat shape and showed a lot of new trapping and immobilisation techniques out of the Tapi-Tapi. We also had a black belt geading with 28 participants (it lasted almost 5 hours): 2 for 5th Dan, 2 for 4th Dan, 7 for 3rd Dan, 6 for 2nd Dan and 11 for 1st Dan. The people going for 4th and 5th Dan have been training FMA between 14 - 21 years. Everybody showed, that they have worked extremy hard for this grading, so the level was very high and everybody passed. Obviously, I am particularily interested in the fighting uses of it. >> Yes, I've seen it ... or, let me rephrase, I've seen the old one. If he's made a new Sarong video, I haven't seen it. However, the video I've seen is good. It's really more of a demo tape than an instructional tape (i.e.: there's a lot more *doing* than *explaining*) While I would never recommend trying to learn anything from a video ... this video is an excellent introduction into the use of the Sarong (i.e.: the Cipecut system of Mande Muda). For really good instruction, though, you'd, of course, want to find a teacher or attend a seminar with Pak Herman. Guro Dan Inosanto also brings out some flexible weapons techniques at seminars sometimes. Regards, Mike - -- A man flattened by an opponent can get up again. It means a great deal to me to know that there are also so many "good" people on the digest whether your belief is in the "system" or in personal justice. I'm sure those that know me know my standing on the subject. The doctors told my uncle that he will most likely be paralyzed for life. The bullet hit direct to the spine and there is about a mm and a half left of muscle on both sides of the spind. There is a 1% chance that he will walk again but doctors said not to bank on that 1%. However, if there was someone that I would bank on, it would be him, he is strong person and is handling it better than some of the family. I thank God still that he is alive and has a strong compitent brain, has lost no ability in his hands, neck, or upper body, and still has a strong attitude. I pray that it will remain with him on the long enduring road ahead of him. Again I thank everyone for the support and pray that we can all gain somthing from this. God bless and thanks. ===== "Draw me not without reason, sheath me not without honor" Chad Hawaii __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Obviously, I am particularily > interested in the fighting uses of it. i own this tape, and i like it a lot. pak herman is a joy to watch. i can't comment on the practicality for fighting, since i'm no expert at combat, but in the hands of pak herman, it's a fearsome thing indeed. i remember when i first got it, i popped it into the vcr, and went into the kitchen to get a drink. then all of a sudden i heard WOOSH WOOSH WOOSH! coming from the other room, and i went to see what it was, it was an opening demo on the tape of pak herman with two sarungs. :) i recently wrote a review of the tape for a fellow pesilt, so i'll include it here. vol. 10 (sarung) very good video. pak herman is scary with these things. starts off with a short demo of pak with single and double sarung, both solo and against an attacker. then he talks about how to wear the sarung, how it's worn on the waist by people from sunda, central java, sumatra, and bali. also how to wear it over the shoulder and how to 'draw' it and get ready to use it. how to hold the sarung, basic blocking, hitting, targets (almost always head, groin, knee, or elbow) then a whole host of techniques to hit, wrap up, throw, break, and choke someone. then there's a section at the end on double sarung, which (the basics, anyway) seem to work off a simple 4-count downward x pattern, with strikes going to the arms, head, knees, and groin. not very many grabs, but lots of hard hits. then there's a section where pak herman is attacked by his brother, and he absolutely brutalizes him with the double sarung. full speed, but probably not full power. pak herman says he can't even go full power with just a sarung, cause he'll hurt his partner. looks like there was plenty of hurt going around anyway. i couldn't imagine what these would do to someone if there was some water or a rock in the sarung. :( then, at the end, there's "one of the best teachers in bandung" doing a kembangan. i think it's pak suherman, but i'm not sure. tim ------------------------------ End of Inayan_Eskrima/FMA-Digest V7 #54 *************************************** To unsubscribe from the eskrima-digest send the command: unsubscribe eskrima-digest -or- unsubscribe eskrima-digest your.old@address in the BODY of an email (top line, left justified) addressed to majordomo@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com.
