The SOG AutoClip...works fine when you need to cut things, or use it in a slashing motion...when you stab into anything that'll "hold onto" the blade, like a sack of grain, an old couch, raw slab of meat, or sometimes even into something hard like a board, and then push upwards along the axis, it unlocks...usually if you stab into something and twist even slightly it will also unlock. I think either the handles, which are some kind of synthetic (plastic or something), have too much just enough "give" or flexibility, or the lock on the spine rides to high and is easily depressed if 1) you grip the knife too tightly or 2) the spine of the knife rests along the inside ridge of knuckles (the Metacarpo-phalangeal joints, I think), or even when it is seated with the spine of the knife resting along the bulgy base of the thumb (the thenar eminence I think) and you grip hard, stabbing motion and a push upwards will disengage the lock. Oh BTW: the AutoClip clipping feature gave out long ago...(can you say lemon?) Maybe its just my hands... Mucho thanks again to all of you who were kind enough to share your "folder" experiences... tenrec tenrec@avcorner.com ------------------------------ From: ABurrese@aol.com Date: Tue, 8 Feb 2000 01:27:15 EST Subject: eskrima: Cold Steel clip << The big plastic clip with "Cold Steel" embossed on it doesn't help matters any. Indeed, the first time I saw that clip and the asymmetric handle I thought the knife was too ugly to own. It has since grown on me. >> I also have carried a Cold Steel Voyager for a few years and have liked the knife, especially since I like Tanto blades. However, this holiday season I was eating the big meal with the family and as I was squeezing past another's chair, the clip snagged on the molding of the wall and snapped off. Yep, just a bit of sideways pressure and the clip napped. Ooops! I've been carrying my Benchmade more often now. The instructor, Guru Besar Davidson, has trained in Indonesia and the Philipines, has competed in the Philipines (stickfighting), learned much of his silat from an aged Indonesian and is currently the recognized Director of the Pekiti-Tirsia Global Organization for the Mid-Weastern states. ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Tue, 8 Feb 2000 18:36:35 -0800 (PST) Subject: [none] ------------------------------ End of Inayan_Eskrima/FMA-Digest V7 #65 *************************************** To unsubscribe from the eskrima-digest send the command: unsubscribe eskrima-digest -or- unsubscribe eskrima-digest your.old@address in the BODY of an email (top line, left justified) addressed to majordomo@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com.
