I've been used to carrying the AFCK, then switched to the mini-AFCK with teflon. Most recently, the Camillus offerings have caught= my attention. Now have a few Camillus mini-Cudas. They open faster than anything that I've seen before (excluding autos). There is a danger thou= gh, that the knife may open when you don't want it to ... and that an inappropriate purchase on the opening slider will fail to open the knife completely. They advise caution when clipping one to pants or into pants= pocket. I've noticed that on drawing the knife it may start to open depe= nding on where the thumb contacts the side of the opening slider. It has a rou= nd, rotating slider that essentially slides the blade into position. The sli= der travels along an angled, slotted path which with practice delivers a -ver= y- smooth and -very- fast open. My cuda is the tanto bladed one. A nice business piece IMHO, but with warnings re: accidental or incomplete openi= ngs =2E.. can't be halfway about opening this puppy. OTOH, opening it is eas= ier than snapping your fingers. Consider snapping your fingers using thumb a= nd index. Downside: unlike the AFCKs, I can't easily open the Cuda when it'= s inverted. Similarly, I can't open it as confidently with the left hand, forgot about left hand inverted! The sucker is sharp and I would not wan= t what has happened in practice to occur in the middle of a problem situati= on, i.e., partially-opened knife. Good engineering otherwise, but I MIGHT go= back to the mini-AFCKs. I called and they said they would replace it but the point is that it is a hassle and i just dont want to deal with it again if the same thing should happen.I've had the same thing happen with Spyderco's. Now I make sure that all my clips are mettal. The same thing does happen but all i have to do is take it off and bend it back out. I like the Browning model 603. He ( Jeff ) is perhaps the deadliest man alive ask him. One of his very high level guys now trains with me. I was informed that Jeff totally annihilated myself, Jim Birchfield, Tom Bisio, Hal Edwards, Erwin, and a slue of others. I tell you he is phenomenal cause the butt whip'n he laid on me was so good I never even felt it or seen him, nor have the others to my knowledge. And his ability to project the tri-angle of death onto you is.....well what can I say I am speechless. As for Dave Hatch, and Chris, I know Dave, he is a nice guy, a few years ago he started training under GM Buot in Balintawak. And I here nice things about Chris, but I don't know him, a few of his students train with me and their good guys. For what its worth I believe the most advanced, and without a doubt best fighter in the area ( disrespect to the others ) is Guru George Darish of Pentjak Silat Buti Negara, at my school in Lincoln Park, he has about 35 years of MA training, and has been known to take his training to the extreme! You can contact him at 313-382-7016 he is a great guy and fun to work with. I was flipping through a MA mag the other day and noticed an article on the "straight blast". What is the difference between a "straight blast" and a continuous series of lefts and rights? In what way is the "straight blast" better? Thanks. Ed ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Talk to your friends online with Yahoo! It was to contain about 5 years of the magazine. My understanding is that they never ended up producing it because of lack of interest. On another matter, we had the pleasure of having Guro Abon, head of the Garimot system, as our special guest instructor last friday at class. It was certainly great to see the unique aspects of this family system, especially the buno (grappling) and hilot. We hope to bring him back for a weekend long seminar in the coming months. Thanks Guro Abon Sidney Stein Filipino Kali-Eskrima Academy of Chicago PS- Mike Castro, did you guys make it home alright. ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Wed, 9 Feb 2000 15:40:24 -0800 (PST) Subject: [none] ------------------------------ End of Inayan_Eskrima/FMA-Digest V7 #67 *************************************** To unsubscribe from the eskrima-digest send the command: unsubscribe eskrima-digest -or- unsubscribe eskrima-digest your.old@address in the BODY of an email (top line, left justified) addressed to majordomo@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com.
