The way I've seen it described is that you use it after say, a gunting or some shock to the body. The way Sifu Vunak's video describes the use of the SB, you flow from breaking in to straight blast to follow-up. You don't start the straight blast from across the room. In retrospect, I probably was too simple in my analysis. If you recall Guro Balicki wrote about blocking the straight line vs. triangle line and I based my analysis on the line not the blast. I also must admit I have never seen the straight blast in person. However, based on the blast concept I still feel there is a simple technique that can effectively counter the straight blast. In our system there is a technique that is called Sulsihan or sewing or weaving drill. One can use only one hand when performing this drill and not much if any power is required to perform this drill. When performing this drill correctly, speed is not important due to the short movements. It is a very relaxed drill and is a precursor to a lock or grappling technique. Again I may be wrong but I do know that for every technique whether it be simple or sophisticated, there is always a counter. Despite it not being centre line I would say that abanico is the relative here. The witik moves are hardly knockout blows but are effective in causing a reaction which surely create the opening for the advantage to be taken.> hi pat - just wanted to drop a line - i like almost everyone i know didnt/dont concider abanico's "knockout shots" - however afte training with guro jun de leon, my mind was changed - while holding a stick vertically with 2 hands, he sent the stick flying out of my hands with a horizontal abanico - made me rethink it . - tuhon gaje's grandfather did 1000 abanico's everymorning just as a warm up - so there's gotta be something to it - i think most people under estimate it's usefulness and power, just my .02 - steve ------------------------------ From: Loki Jorgenson Date: Fri, 11 Feb 2000 11:56:51 -0800 (PST) Subject: eskrima: FMA Terms and Organizations database on-line FMA Database update ------------------- The FMA Organizations and FMA Glossary of Terms databases are now on-line.
