Also have to say I like some of the fights in Rowdy Roddy Piper's movies. Remind me of a number of nights back in my Airborne and Sniper days..... Might not have been a lot of flashy techniques, but sure was a lot of slamming and jamming. Then running when MPs showed up. First, what does an Indonesian Empire that lasted from 1300-1600 have to do with modern Pekiti-tirsia? What is this modern "Empire" exist for? Third, what relationship does Grand Tuhon Leo Gaje jr, and Guro Dan Inosanto have to this empire? > the idea for creating a system that combined the various martial arts from the countries that comprised the majapahit empire was concieved by tuhon gaje and silat master eddie jeoffry(sp?) (i think his title is besar-although not 100% sure) - the reason for the combination into a single system was mostly for the preservation and from a historical perspective - a hugh part of the FMA, according to tuhon gaje and guro dan, is the cultural aspect. as a matter of fact, it is part of the la coste/inosanto doce methodos. it was later that tuhon gaje and eddie joffery asked guro dan to be a part of the "steering" (for lack of a different term) committee. also because of shifting borders, ect. and cultural interactions - the arts do cross - silat systems that have mauy thai/krabi krabong, silat in kali, ect.ect. you get the idea. it now seems that guro dan is the one who keeps it going - teaching the arts of siam, burma, indonesia, philipines, malaysia, ... sorry cant recall the rest of the top of my head, as a seperate class/system - although tuhon gaje never stops researching and investigating MA's from various sources and lands, and he does teach the malay sibat, ect. - hope that answers the questions steve ------------------------------ From: GregMcFerr@aol.com Date: Fri, 18 Feb 2000 01:58:49 EST Subject: eskrima: moive From: "Jon Howard" >Anyone else wanna vote for their favorite fight scene in a film... just one favorite...?
