A quick step inside the "dangerous range" or the arc of the weapon, a check of the weapon, and a quick slice to the liver or several other choice targets followed with flowing cuts to several other choice targets ends your opponent's bat wielding days in a hurry. Even should your opponent have a lighter one-handed weapon such as a rattan stick, the principles remain the same. Myself, I would probably take the knife, if for no other reason than to keep it from being wielded against me. A skilled eskrimador with a knife is a scary thought. R. My friend believes a bat gives him better range and power. >I'm sure the choice would be made by a person's level of training in the >particular "weapon". I'm sure many of us would prefer an eskrima stick over >a baseball bat. Let's hear some opinions. 1.) If I get there first, I'll take the knife (or both). 2.) If we get to the weapons at the same time, I'd step on his hand as he reached for a weapon and/or combine knees and elbows with my momentum to soften him up before I grab the knife or bat (or both) 3.) If he gets to the weapons first and takes only one, I'd deal with it the best I could and try to keep him off me so I could maneuver to get the other weapon. If he gets both, my friend outside the ring would shoot him --- just kidding. I would deal with the situation to the best of my ability and let my training and mindset get me through (but, if I am going to go, I am taking him with me).
