A quick step inside the "dangerous range" or the arc of the weapon, a check of the weapon, and a quick slice to the liver or several other choice targets followed with flowing cuts to several other choice targets ends your opponent's bat wielding days in a hurry. Even should your opponent have a lighter one-handed weapon such as a rattan stick, the principles remain the same. Myself, I would probably take the knife, if for no other reason than to keep it from being wielded against me. A skilled eskrimador with a knife is a scary thought. R. Saturno, Jr >> I agree ... but any weapon in the hands of a skilled Eskrimador is dangerous (hell ... an empty-handed skilled Eskrimador is dangerous). You're also right ... assuming that the guy with the bat is attacking you and you have the knife. Also, holding the bat in the traditional sense, you could probably feint in and get him to swing so you could follow it and jam it. However, if he's holding the bat as I described (again, maybe this relies on big hands), the bat is almost as quick and maneuverable as a stick. Now, if he gets to largo range and waits for you to attack before he attacks, and if he stays conservative with his attacks (i.e.: doesn't get overzealous and leave a big hole for you to get into), then my money would be on this guy. But, now we're into a discussion of what-ifs which is really pretty pointless. What it boils down to is which person is the better/luckier/more determined fighter? He's probably going to win. Now, a third option you didn't mention is ... why go for a weapon immediately? (Assuming you think you're a better fighter than him) Why not pound on him a little with your hands before going for a weapon (or finishing it with your hands). Of couse, this option is only good if you get to him before he gets to a weapon :-) Mike - -- Realism...has no more to do with reality than anything else. -- Hob Broun __________________________________________ NetZero - Defenders of the Free World Get your FREE Internet Access and Email at http://www.netzero.net/download/index.html ------------------------------ From: "Rudolf Kimbel (100432.650@compuserve.com)" <100432.650@compuserve.com> Date: Mon, 28 Feb 2000 11:40:35 -0500 Subject: eskrima: Silat on Bali to:INTERNET:eskrima@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com Hi folks, I'll be going to Bali.
