Greetings all, Would anyone know where I might be able to train (short term) in Escrima or Muay Thai in Giata, Italy. I have to go there for the first two weeks of April .... I will not have a car and I think the work-day is going to be 8 to 5 (or close to those hours). I will ride public transportation ... if not too far or expensive. Otherwise, I'll be shadow boxing/sticking for two weeks. Thanks, Michael ------------------------------ From: Kilap@aol.com Date: Thu, 2 Mar 2000 23:59:13 EST Subject: eskrima: Re: Inquiring minds wanna know In a message dated 3/2/00 5:51:06 PM Eastern Standard Time, eskrima-digest-owner@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com writes: << (the specialist today said "snapped extensor tendon in middle finger" and put it in a brace not to be removed for the next 2-3 months) >> Someone's gotta ask - so how it happen?! In my home province(Laguna,Souther Luzon) swords are not used(commonly). Bolos ("itak" or "gulok") were used primarily as utility and secondarily as a weapon. It is very inconvenient to something with guard. Remember the time were Filipinos were not allow to carry weapons, and "Gulok" only when they are going to the farm? How can one explain to the "guardia sibil" that his sword with guard is his utility and he is on his way to the farm. mac ------------------------------ From: Patrick Davies Date: Fri, 3 Mar 2000 11:06:05 -0000 Subject: eskrima: 10 skills Taken my time reading this and pondering but I keep coming back to the same thing IMO You miss out one important element on your list Tuhon: conditioning With it each one on the list is determined. By conditioning im talking about being fit, having wind. An unfit able fighter will lose in most cases to a fitter less able fighter (eg:Tyson v Douglas). I'm looking for a stick which isn't real expensive, (sorry Crafty :) yet has a good feel. I am aware that LAMECO and SOF-STX have sticks on the market. But, I haven't used either. *Can anyone describe how these sticks, or any other, are constructed.* Would love to know the pros and cons of any of the safety sticks. ================================================================== LAMECO http://www.lamecoeskrima.com/catalog.htm LAM015 PADDED ESKRIMA STICK (EACH) $15.00 ================================================================== SOF-STX Concepts "Experience Without Injury" DAVID MONROE 3644 Lakeland Road Gainesville, GA 30506 Phone: 770-287-9817 ================================================================== Does anyone know the cost and quality of the SOF-STX? Are there any pics online? Before anyone suggests just using rattan sticks. I would love to, but I need to find willing participants. I just ordered two pair of Doce Pares headgear today. I figure maybe I can transition some training partners into the rattan, if I work through the soft-sticks first. Thanks in advance for any help... ~Kev ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Fri, 3 Mar 2000 06:29:05 -0800 (PST) Subject: [none] ------------------------------ End of Inayan_Eskrima/FMA-Digest V7 #109 **************************************** To unsubscribe from the eskrima-digest send the command: unsubscribe eskrima-digest -or- unsubscribe eskrima-digest your.old@address in the BODY of an email (top line, left justified) addressed to majordomo@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com.
