The good news is that this particular injury has one of the highest healing success rates around IF that obnoxious little splint is kept on virtually 24 - 7. Take it off only AFTER you shower and dry it off and put it right back on. Definitely resist the evil urge to bend the finger, even a little, ever, until that magic 7 or 8 week period has passed. The inevitable stiffness wil work itself out . Best wishes, Doc ------------------------------ From: "Information" Date: Wed, 8 Mar 2000 12:12:58 -0600 Subject: eskrima: Re: Eric's post It is good to hear R and D stories from great fighters. That post / thread may help hundreds of us in that situation. I'm kind of clueless on this thread due to my schedule and mass deletion of digests, however some things come to mind. DISCLAIMER: After only about 10 hours of groudfighting instruction, I have less than a white belt knowledge. An experience that I had with a drunk and disorderly recently at a local establishment put new perspective on the whole picture and reminded me of my roots. In Defensor Method, Guro Nate always stresses the presence of the blade. Weather you see it or not, act like its there somewhere. We all know how fast the single hand folders can be drawn and used. So, to paraphrase my instructor, "All fighting should be thought of as knife fighting." Let me throw a different spin on that. One that comes from the same model, but has significant influence on the connotations of what you are dealing with. Criminals aren't predators, they are scavangers. While they can range from cockroaches and rats who will run at the lights being switched on, they also include hyenas and jackels that are pretty bad assed pieces of real estate. While they can and will hunt (or rat pack a larger opponent) most of their livelihood comes from opportunistic scavanging. (i.e. break ins when nobody is home). However often the same can be said for their predation -- much of it is opportunistic. Unlike a predator who will hit a larger animal than itself, scavangers seldom will. What they will do is find a "feeding" area where they will stake out and wait for those "weaker" than themselves to isolate themselves from immediate help (that subway platform for example or a mall parking lot). While there are those that will hit in the middle of a crowd, they are the exception rather than the rule. ------------------------------ From: "Mike aka Shugendo" Date: Wed, 08 Mar 2000 18:32:46 GMT Subject: eskrima: Shameless Seminar Promotion.... Stick Grappling Seminar Saturday March 25th, 2000 Most stick fighting systems (Kali, Eskrima, Arnis, etc.) contain standing grappling techniques. Very few take the stick grappling fight to the ground… where it becomes a whole different game. While a good grappler can make your life miserable, a good stick grappler can make your life a living hell either standing or on the ground (as evidenced by Eric Knauss and Mark Denny on the DB tapes). An empty-hand lock can be extremely painful, but nothing compares to the viselike power and crushing strength of a stick lock (or choke)! This clinic is designed to give you a firm foundation in the concepts and principles of stick grappling. With concepts, techniques and drills drawn from the Inosanto Blend of Kali, Eskrima and Arnis, Shooto,Bando, Ninpo Taijutsu, Jiu-Jitsu, Lameco Eskrima, Sombo and Maphilindo Silat, this clinic will immerse you in the art of stick grappling and greatly enhance your understanding and ability in this area. This clinic will be especially useful to military, law enforcement and security personnel who need to be able to control and remove a resisting or violent subject. The following topics will be covered: - - Standing locks, chokes, positioning and control techniques - - Ground locks, chokes, positioning and control techniques - - Stick grips, leverage and compliance points - - Counter-locks and disarms - - Lock flows and transition techniques Seminar Location Martial Arts Koncepts Rockville, Maryland Seminar Fee Advanced Registration: $40/person; price includes a Lameco padded stick. At-the-Door Registration: $50/person; price includes a Lameco padded stick. Seminar Time 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM (with a 1.5 hour lunch break) NOTE: Attendance is limited to 20 participants and payment must be received prior to March 22nd, 2000 in order to qualify for the advanced registration rate. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Wed, 8 Mar 2000 12:57:30 -0800 (PST) Subject: [none] ------------------------------ End of Inayan_Eskrima/FMA-Digest V7 #119 **************************************** To unsubscribe from the eskrima-digest send the command: unsubscribe eskrima-digest -or- unsubscribe eskrima-digest your.old@address in the BODY of an email (top line, left justified) addressed to majordomo@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com.
