I know Kalani and Stuart definitely know about this. Anyone else ever study the wak wak? Also some other misc. tools: Fingers(10), fingernails(10), biceps(2), spitting. Different tools are like a multi-purpose screwdriver: Would the heel be considered a diffent weapon than the feet? If not, isn't the forearm, shoulder, and elbow all parts of the arm? If yes, would the toes be considered a different weapon also. If not, why not? I feel that they are because the toes are used in (example) a groin kick. The body has so many weapons. Also the forearm can be devided into different weapons(screw heads) as used with "knife tapping" with the back side, or as used in hacking with the outer edge, as used with the inner forearm (similiar to knife tapping-just using the inside instead of the outside to hook and reroute. It depends on what is conidered a tool and what a weapon? What one man would or would not do, doesn't mean another man should or should not do. ===== "Draw me not without reason, sheath me not without honor" Chad Hawaii __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Sorry we couldn't hook up when you were in Dallas... I hope the rest of you conference went well. Onto the topic... In addition to your extensive list I would add 'chin'. As my sparring partners can attest, one of the things that I picked up in my years as a freestyle wrestler was the effective use of the chin in grappling. Consider: In a standing grapple, both of your arms reaching around your opponent/training buddy's hips or waist. Put the tip of your chin in the middle of his sternum (the part that the slightly older male in you early childhood used to give you 'noogies' on). Push forward with your chin, grinding slightly for extra credit, while pulling their hips up and toward you. The combination of body mechanics and ouchy causes most people end up falling backward... setting that up is another story. (As a general note, a lot of guys use their forhead for the same trick.. depending on the circumstance, the forehead can give a little extra reach.) I've also used my chin to help control an arm from an outside armbar, etc. Anyway, you get the idea Cory - -------------- From: "william schultz" Date: 29 Mar 2000 21:14:09 -0800 Subject: eskrima: weapons Greetings. The other day (for no particular reason) I started to wonder how many "Natural" tools does the human body have that can be used as weapons? So I started to break it down and list what I came up with. (1) Head (head buts) (1) Mouth (biting) (2) Shoulders (in fighting/standing grapple) (2) Elbows (2) Forearms (I considered a Kwai Sao as the end of the forearm. One could argue that it is using the wrist) (2) Hands/Fists (2) legs (kicking) (2) Knees (2) Feet (trapping) A friend pointed out that you could also count the hips (2) for bumping and throwing. That gives us a grand total of 18. Any to add? Any you don't feel should be listed? Now, are these tools or weapons? One might argue that they are just tools and the real weapon is the human brain/mind that puts them into action. A stick, knife, or gun are also tools that only become dangerous after being put into action by the brain. Dennis Miller >> Greetings again all, As for natural weapons, my brother was a wrestler, and his favorite thing to do to me was to take me down and grind his chin into my temple/back/thigh/. He was also fond of placing me in a cradle (his body sort of "T'd" into mine from the side), and shove his head into my kidney. Using forearms, as a Filipino stylist we early on learned to slam the forearm into the face and chin in a raking motion as we were going for a behind-the-head hold. Once there, the head could be bounced around using the inner elbow. A parallel between my bro's wrestling and our Eskrima was what he called the "pancake," the good ol' palm strike/slap. Any place from the chin up is a good target.
