It would be nice to see everyone and put some faces on some internet names. Even if you are from out of town and have some frequent flyer miles added up,...you may want a short vacation. Note-->Dwight's seminar is miles from the "Young Elian mess". No helicopters, police, or news media. Since things are kinda slow here on the ED id like to ask a question. Would espada e daga be considered for lack of a better term "the highest levels" or most important in most Escrima/Kali/Arnis systems. If so why? Herrman" Date: Wed, 12 Apr 2000 08:19:01 -0400 Subject: eskrima: seminar review Greetings, This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending a seminar taught by Master "Dong" Cuesta (Doce Pares). This was the second time Guro Jason has hosted him for a one day seminar in Boston - and the seminars just keep getting better! We started the afternoon off with some espada y daga work (pingki-pingki drills & carenza) then moved to mano y mano (offense/defense flows & lock flows). We then geared up and Master Cuesta sparred one round with everyone who wanted to participate (10 rounds total!). After the rounds we worked some sparring drills and finished the day with a bit of combat judo (vs. knife). I really enjoyed the quality & variety of material as well as the pace of the seminar (short breaks every hour so that we could take notes, refuel, etc.). Master Cuesta took a very hands-on approach to teaching at this seminar (and the others I have attended). After demonstrating a technique/drill he walked around the room and fed the correct energy, letting each of us try it with him, and making corrections where necessary. I think this level of personal attention is one of the things that makes his seminars such an enjoyable experience. Highlights of the day (for me) included Master Cuesta and Guro Jason doing a free-flow lock for lock exchange (standing - empty hand) -wow!- and the opportunity to spar with Master Cuesta & hear his thoughts on sparring (importance of sparring with a variety of opponents, every match being a learning experience, no egos, etc.). All in all, an excellent day. I can't wait 'til Master Cuesta returns to Boston! Check him out if you have the chance. Sincerely, Chris H. student: EEMD, Boston "This is the weapon of a Jedi Knight.
