If so why? If you take highest levels to mean "taught later" I would agree with you, since its a two-weapon style, with unevenly matched lengths and possibly modes of use. But since you seem to mean in matter of importance, I would say NO ! The most important and highest level is to be able to apply your FMA principles/skills in any given situation with the weapons available (ie. also unarmed), and thus not be restricted in your chances of survival. I sparred with someone using the style and he showed me a that you the the movements are the same for empty hands. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ From: "Jason" Date: Wed, 12 Apr 2000 15:09:21 -0700 Subject: eskrima: Re: Espada Y Daga It really depends how the style is used in the system or style that it is taught in. In the Inayan System it is used in all ranges. Inayan Espada Y Daga is usually taught later in the curriculum with occasional sessions early in the student's training. The reason why we try to teach it at the end of the curriculum is for two reasons. 1) In order for techniques to work the timing must be perfect. 2) Also, there is no margin for error so the technique must be perfect. Inayan Espada Y Daga differs from other Inayan styles in that there is little or no margin for error in the application of the techniques, there are no redundancies in the techniques. More over, since it requires excellent timing, technique, and flow, we reserve the techniques for advanced levels. At this level of expertise the practitioner's application of counters will be at the level needed to perform in this style.
