The Yaming style from the island of Negros is a style that focuses on blades, specifically espada y daga. Most of the defensive techniques work off the parry, not a block, and nearly all counter attacks begin with a thrust from the sword off that parry. If one wants to learn a true blade system, this is one I would recommend. The head of this style, Fortunato "Atong" Garcia, is in his 80's, and is still very capable of working with the blade in all aspects. He is a true master of the blade. Two places are my club and that of a friend of mine. Unfortunately, being brand new clubs I'm afraid the level would not be interesting enough for your friend. We'd be glad to train with him though. Tell him to give us a call, and we'll give him the adresses of all the Paris clubs. I'm Jean-Yves at 01 40 50 03 99. My friend is Michel at 01 42 08 22 53. To all the other instructors in Paris: sorry but I didn't have your phone numbers on hand... Important: also tell your friend that Dan Inosanto is coming to Paris next week-end!!! First of all, I didn't take that comment as serious stealing. As an instructor, he was impressed by the views approached enough to share them with personal students. A high honor as far as I am concerned. He may have given credit and he may not during the class, nevertheless, it is an opinion. Someone may teach shoulder rolls, then, sees someone in a video on "how to teach shoulder rolls". A different method than previously practiced. Then incorporate that into his progression curiculum. Is that person "ripping off' something or using information not secretive enough to hide in a video. If you see a boxer who has a distinct style of fighting and you emulate that, whether it is natural for you, etc., you are paying a complement to that person. Just my opinion. A.
