You may not thinking all of us will give an opinion something that not definite answer to the question. I know your intention is to give a little advice to the man whom wanted to know different opinion about the referable length of stick to practice with in FMA in general. Well, you phrase the answer in your System since is Serrada you preferred short stick and give why and such explanation. Since your post is cover the entire FMA, we as also instructors will react and give our opinion to so please understand. I myself want to help this poor guy, he is confused what is ideal length stick for training. << I have not posted on this digest before because I have wanted to watch how things were. On the question of the short versus long my opinion is that if you are good enough and truly understand the advantages of one versus the other you can accomplish what others cannot do with a perfectly balanced high >> tech gizmo stick, with either short or long, Good points, we should agree then. I don't think we are measuring your skills here, we are just giving opinion/points of view on the topic. <<< After years of studying both the short and the long stick (because to truly know one you automatically know the strengths and advantages of the other), it would appear that length generally has the advantage. You can if knowledgeable bring the large stick in close to the body and through weight shifting deliver tremendous power >> with speed against an opponent up very close and personal. You know and I know its effectiveness of our art its depend on us. (Practitioner?) <<< If you study all of the champoinship fights in the various weight devisions in boxing you discover statistically that the opponent with the longer reach and if his >>> skills were roughly equal won a greater percentage of the time, for example. This is boxing, their rules on this game so its hard to based our art for this game? << Being a sarrada man what I am saying would appear to be sacraligeous, but it is not. Master Angel Cabales used the short stick and I woud dare say that most with the long could not defeat him in most instances. Does this mean that the short stick is superior? I do not think so, it means that "he" was superior and that he could defeat most with any reasonable stick through sheer mastery and excellence. Good points, why, it's hard for you to understand, that you accept that you make a MIS-post to the phrase "There "NO" such thing as one length weapon can do it"? >>The true advantage of the short is that in most cases short length weapons are more generally available in life and death situations. A pen, knife, bottle, etc. can trully be used with devestating effectiveness in the hands of one who understands >>the short weapon. I totally agree but I think you are moving the topic to a new whole different question here. >>My art encompasses the long. I personally practice with short and long. So in the end it may be that it is not the size of the stick that matters but the >> person who is using it. BINGO!! you got it so let move on. <<(But if you were to ask most women, they would say that size counts), but since I >>am a man I will stand on my prior statement. Mr. Saturbo, I deeply sorry, but you have to understand women is equal as man as their opinions, we respect that opinion. But I do believed that we join the ED for one reason to learn more and give opinion to the people whom interested to grow from us. I have to say goodluck and train more harder. I like your positive attitude, you show you are a real fighter. Be well. Its show to your words that you are not an easy to fight with. I fought a lot of masters/grandmasters have the positive attitude like you, also bigger, longer reach, more experience, but hey, I did my time of experimentation and testing skills, I went undefeated for seven years 1978-1985 in Laguna Philippines from Unfadded Stickfighting Tournaments. Survives in several knife attack and countless of multiple opponents street fight and up to now I cannot explain how I did it. May be luck only or may be the skills that I acquired, or my philosophy in fighting? I know because I am STUBBORN too.
