Up till now I have heard that Nino Pilla (Inosanto lineage) seems to be there. Can anyone confirm this and perhaps supply a contact address/more information on him? Also naturally any other tips concerning (F)MA there are appreciated. The best instruction I received on this matter came from not only a great source of knowledge, but from a great gentleman as well. Bert Poe is no longer with us, but in his time he had several occasions to actually separate an eyeball from its rightful owner. His recommendation is to use the thumbs, entering up to the first knuckle on the nose side, and pushing to the outside. This will leave it hanging on the cheek, as Ray said. He had other methods for completely separating the optic nerves and turning the eyeball into a projectile. The reason for nose side entry is in low visibility situations, you can feel the nose and it will guide you to where you need to be. **Disclaimer** I am not a doctor and the above is simply my preferred method and is for informational purposes only. D. This is the first of a continuous series of workshops in the African and Malay arts. This is a rare opportunity to see both individuals demonstrate their respective arts. Pendekar Yana is the highest-ranked, most experienced instructor in the Indonesian art of Perisai Diri Silat in the United States. Maha Guro Panglima Sultan Uddin is taking time out of his busy schedule to introduce Pendekar Yana and the art of Perisai Diri to all of California. As you know, Maha Guro Panglima Sultan Uddin was a recent inductee into the World Martial Arts Hall of Fame this year and also has experience in stunts, films and television (Mortal Kombat Annihilation, Mortal Kombat Conquest), directing and acting. Aside from demonstrations by Pendekar Yana in Perisai Diri and the art of Eskrima by Maha Guro Panglima Sultan Uddin, there will be an actual workshop in Perisai Diri. Following the workshop, there will be discussions on the direction the Malay-African arts, as well as discussions on upcoming books and seminars produced by Mindseed. Professor Sultan Uddin will also be acknowledged as the West Coast representative for the art of Perisai Diri. Since there are numerous film projects in the works, there will also be a mini-audition for these upcoming projects. Anyone interested should bring photos, video and a bio of themselves. During the workshop, there will be numerous celebrities, musicians, and politicians coming by to make a visit. We will keep you updated in the upcoming weeks. The cost of the workshop is $80. Postal Money Order or Certified Bank Check must be received by Thursday, May 26th in order to pre-register. You must pre-register to attend. Coming out of lurk mode here :) A freind of mine is looking for a good instructor in the San Antonio area. He has never studied the martial arts before, and doesn't want to get involved in a school that ends up being a waste of time. Since I know nothing of this area of the country and I live 1000 miles from him, I was hoping someone on the list could help me help him out. He isn't too hung up on style, he just wants an effective system but more importantly a good instructor to teach him. Thanks all, Rob Remmers "...and another thing, when I gun the motor I want people to think the world is coming to an end." -Homer Simpson ------------------------------ From: "Jason Inay" Date: Mon, 01 May 2000 13:13:37 PDT Subject: eskrima: Re: Inayan_Eskrima/FMA-Digest V7 #208 FYI ALL GUROS in Inayan have to fight FULL CONTACT with only Head Protection and minimal hand protection. Groin protection is recommended but not required in order to be eligible to become a Guro in Inayan. In addition ALL INAYAN GUROS have to defend against a REAL blade before they can become a Guro in Inayan. Just and FYI that other styles\systems fight too. In addition Inayan is a System with COMPLETE styles for short mid and long range. We are familiar with most ranges and have fought in all of them. Just wanted to clear that up. 29 ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ From: "Jason Inay" Date: Mon, 01 May 2000 13:21:28 PDT Subject: eskrima: In response to Jerry I use a 30" when fighting and use it with all the styles in Inayan, short mid and long. Interesting to think that just cuz the weapon is short you can't play the long game or if it is long you can't play the short. Hmmmm. Clinching is another thought, but I pass on that. You make the assumption of a bludgeon instead of a slash. Every style is viable in it's own environment. 29 ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Mon, 1 May 2000 15:20:09 -0700 (PDT) Subject: [none] ------------------------------ End of Inayan_Eskrima/FMA-Digest V7 #210 **************************************** To unsubscribe from the eskrima-digest send the command: unsubscribe eskrima-digest -or- unsubscribe eskrima-digest your.old@address in the BODY of an email (top line, left justified) addressed to majordomo@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com.
