Head protection against a stick but, ostensibly, no protection against a REAL blade? Has the Inayan organization lost many potential guros to knife wounds? Jerry "ALL GUROS in Inayan have to fight FULL CONTACT with only Head Protection and minimal hand protection. Groin protection is recommended but not required in order to be eligible to become a Guro in Inayan. In addition ALL INAYAN GUROS have to defend against a REAL blade before they can become a Guro in Inayan." ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ From: "Jerry Bikendova" Date: Wed, 03 May 2000 02:21:58 GMT Subject: eskrima: Re: professor? "The Mindseed Entertainment Group and Associates proudly presents a 4-hour workshop on Saturday, May 27th, featuring Pendekar Yana and Professor Sultan Uddin, Ph. D. ..." At which university or college does Professor Uddin teach? Where did he receive his Ph. D.? And do you have the title of his dissertation; I would like to order a copy of it from UMI. "As you know, Maha Guro Panglima Sultan Uddin was a recent inductee into the World Martial Arts Hall of Fame this year and also has experience in stunts, films and television (Mortal Kombat Annihilation, Mortal Kombat Conquest), directing and acting." Is this the same person as Professor Uddin? All the titles, and they seem to be getting longer, are very confusing. Maybe I should have added the apositive phrase ..."with malice and intent to harm". But you are right. However, the fact that each knows the rules to be friends at the end of the day changes the complexity and intensity of responses. Two weeks ago while helping to train candidate Island dog? for this weekend. I recieved 3 really nice knots on my head through my fencing mask and headgear I wore underneath the fencing mask! Additionally, I have this nice purple softball on my left bicep, but while the intensity is there, this is in no way "fighting". I think that the threat of true bodily harm changes the entire issue or at least raises it to an new level. DB tries to do that really well by allowing all comers to participate so that the inbread danger of so much sport fighting does not pollute the intent of the training. It is about the safest way to get the adrenaline rush of fighting without the fear of death. The "uninfomed" think you are just swinging big sticks. So to get back to the original thread of bigstick/little stick, Salty Dog is right from my perspective up until the wildcard of "intent" comes into play. Then only those who have been there can tell us about that. For those who want to go there always remember that that experience comes at the risk of great bodily harm and showers with guys.
