It takes, what, 8 or more years of training to progress to the Guro level in Inayan (I'm only in 7.25 years thus far). After training that length of time you hopefully only get a few minor cuts. But we do train in a backyard. So if someone were to fail the test, well, it would be easy to dispose of the 'unqualified'... :) Ray > This is interesting. I'l like to know about: 1. Carrying knives, OC or ASP's in NYC. What's legal? 2. Nice places to visit, like knife or MA shops, friendly places to meet or train, etc. Thanks for any help. Additionally, I have > this nice purple softball on my left bicep, Ah yes, C-Island Dog. I have high regard for him. My three staff fights were with him. Clean spirit, always in shape (43 years old at the last Gathering BTW) effectively fights single, double and staff and against all size opponents with no mind to the fact that he is one of the smaller fighters there. And now I know you are partially to blame. ;-) Woof, Crafty ------------------------------ From: EGJundis@aol.com Date: Wed, 3 May 2000 14:17:04 EDT Subject: eskrima: Visit to Sydney, Australia Howdy Gang, I'll be in Sydney, Australia from July 10-27, 2000. I would love to meet up with members of the Sydney FMA community. I am also currently working on setting up arrangements to do two seminars while I am there. Material covered will come from several sources including: Eskrima Serrada, Kali Ilustrisimo, Silat Asli, Corto Cadena Visayan Eskrima, and Nei Gung. I am particularly interested in meeting up with the Kali Ilustrisimo practitioners in Australia. John Chow I hope You are reading this. I've been looking forward to meeting them and exchanging some notes and stories for a while. Any recommendations on cool things to do and see would also be appreciated. I'll be there with my wife who is also a Serrada practitioner. I look forward to your replies via the digest or personal email. Thanks, Elrik Jundis Director School of Pilipino Martial Arts ps. A wish of "higher consciousness" to all the participants and coordinators of this weekends Dog Brothers gathering. =) ------------------------------ From: "Jason Inay" Date: Wed, 03 May 2000 11:33:44 PDT Subject: eskrima: Re: Losses to blade attacks Jerry, Most people would weed themselves out before they ever make it to that portion of the curriculum. Besides, if we are doing our job no guro candidate would make it there without being sure they can do it. It is just part of the training. No losses, yet, though you sometimes get cut. Control is the key. The way the curriculum is designed they should have quit long before they got there if they could not handle it. 29 ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Wed, 3 May 2000 11:54:31 -0700 (PDT) Subject: [none] ------------------------------ End of Inayan_Eskrima/FMA-Digest V7 #214 **************************************** To unsubscribe from the eskrima-digest send the command: unsubscribe eskrima-digest -or- unsubscribe eskrima-digest your.old@address in the BODY of an email (top line, left justified) addressed to majordomo@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com.
