I have read, that in the same time, when in whole Europe die about 500 people by shootings, in America die about 9000. Isn´t it worth thinking about the victims and how to prevent so many killings instead of only insisting on the "right" that causes them? I say protect our children by protecting our rights. What scares me is that the only way that they will see they are wrong is by winning. When the bad men rule the night because no one can stand up to them then these "mom's" will understand. Pardon the drama. My ex-wife, who is the mother of my child (and a damn good one) understands. She knows that protection is no good if it is only in a police cruiser twenty miles away. She does not prefer to carry a gun all the time. She likes the fact that I may have some form of protection on me, however. It was understood that there was no limit to the ferocity that either of us would fight to protect our child. Now if I could just get her to take Eskrima! Something about fingernails breaking and sweat. Patrick N. Firearms education is clearly the key. As you child proof your guns, also gun proof your children. > I have read, that in the same time, when in whole > Europe die about 500 people by shootings, in America die about 9000. In the US we know that more than 2 million crimes each year are halted and people are defended because they have the right to own a firearm. What happens when a thug breaks into the home of your elderly mother or father? My 81 year old mother has a handgun and she knows how to use it, because -I- trained her. FWIW, I'm a certified firearms training instructor. But, yes, accidents do happen. There is a cost to freedom. > Isn't it worth thinking about the victims and how to prevent so many killings > instead of only insisting on the "right" that causes them? As our Ben Franklin stated, those willing to give up freedom for safety deserve neither. Think about it, what were some of Hitler's early actions in your country in the 1930s? "1935 will go down in History! For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration! Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient and the world will follow our lead to the future!" Adolf Hitler "History shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subjected peoples to carry arms have prepared their own fall." Be like me Ray. SHUT THE TV OFF!! This is coming from a mother. More gun control. Cripes!! Use more parenting control if you ask me. It ain't the gun it is the child or person hanging on to it that is at fault. Getting ill watching the coverage of this silly "Million" Mom march. I say protect our children by protecting our rights. Ray >> from: kjowers I fully agree. I've never seen a firearm take a life when the person controlling it did not intend for it to. And yes I do mean controlling it. It is a tool as much as a knife, stick, sword, etc. ever was and remains so unless someone invents a way for the firearms to pick themselves up, aim , and fire. I agree something has to be done with the number of firearms on the street in the hands of children and evildoers, but a complete and total ban of firearms is completely an totally ridiculous. In time of need we , as a race, invent weapons from whatever we have at our disposal. Pipe bombs and other weapons of mass destruction can and are made from easily found household items. I don't see a ban on these items forthcoming and I've yet to see a Million man/ woman Mr. Clean march. The road to hell , is as they say, paved with good intentions. We as a society are the problem , not the tools. But the tools are a good scapegoat to utilize when no one wishes to step up and take responsibility.
