For some reason the thing has gotten thick, really thick, pretty disgusting actually. I would imagine that in close quarters if you grab someone by the head and slip the thumb sideways, it could create a deal of discomfort. Again, theoretically. > >Getting ill watching the coverage of this silly "Million" Mom march. >I say protect our children by protecting our rights. > Or you all end up bringing knives to gunfights. For us maybe not as effective. > Bear in mind that with tigers, like all cats, the claws don't function primarily as a damaging weapon. They are more of an assist to the act, in the fact that they are so drastically hooked, and are used to grab the shoulders or haunches of the prey (larger prey anyway). Then, they pull you down to ground, or closer to them, and use thier jaws (neck break for the large big cats, suffocation for many of the smaller ones). Taken in this context, I would never rely upon a claw maneuver of any type to be a fight stopper: not even those 600 lb. tigers do that. Instead they use them to give themselves a decisive advantage, like one of us would. Don't expect the guy to crumple into a fetal ball: but realize that if you do succeed, at worst, he has very little depth perception, and no peripheral vision on the one side. His other eye will most likely tear sympathetically, also. If you learn the eye jab the JKD way, it can be an effective tool, assuming you start with enough distance. It can be fast, but more important, hard to see coming, and hit you out farther than a punch. Even if it doesn't actually hit cornea, I'll bet it causes a flinch, and a movement of his guard. Better than nothing, IMO, and a good, simple technique for a woman who wants to learn "self-defense", but not put in serious practice time. Whether it's more useful than a good punch, is another manner... If you can only afford $125, sorry, but your family doesn't matter. >> Well said Ray Buddy ------------------------------ From: Luis Pellicer Date: Mon, 15 May 2000 10:18:02 +0800 Subject: [none] >And in the meanwhile children shoot themselves because they have access to >weapons they can=B4t handle. My kids don't have access to my guns, but neither do they to my blades either. It's just a matter of proper training and prevention. Leave a blade out within access of a three year old and you are asking for trouble, do we ban, restrict ownership of, and license all steak knives? >When the bad men rule the night because no one can stand up to them >then these "mom's" will understand. Can't help but add to this by paraphrasing a letter I read in a gun magazine. If you're in a subway and some drug-strung maniac decides he's gonna whack everyone on board, (tell me this isn't possible) who would you want beside you? A dozen of those "million" moms or me, packing, trained to use the firearm well? >I can=B4t understand why you set the control of guns equal with the loss of freedom If the Filipinos had equal access to firearms as did the Spanish (in terms of training, and per capita ownership of guns) do you think there would have been hundreds of years of colonial rule? I think there would have been a whole lot more dead Spaniards. (No disrespect to my family) The Moros are often used as a symbol of defiance, but go down to certain areas of Mindanao today and you will see that what is considered being "undressed" is not having a Colt 1911, or clone, worn openly. (Sorry, but the misconception of being "naked" without a blade is only during certain formal ceremonies, or by people who cannot afford guns. Been there, seen that.) One of the first things Marcos did when he declared martial law was confiscate all firearms above a certain caliber, and limited ownership to one small bore handgun, and a .22 or shotgun for a longarm. (Through liscensing of ALL firearms, he knew what everybody had.) The citizenry could not fight back. People want to protect thier freedom and rights? Can't do it with a blade, and despots usually never listen to "due process". Just my thoughts. A handgun is used to fight your way back to the rifle you were stupid enough to leave behind (or something like that) - Jeff Cooper=20 LPIII ------------------------------ From: "Mark Harrell" Date: Mon, 15 May 2000 02:34:09 GMT Subject: eskrima: Savate Book From: "Kenneth M. As of today not only have I not received the book, but have had no respnoses to e-mails, regular mail, nor even a voice mail to Mr. Assli's residence. The original order form insisted on only a money order as payment, so I have no other way to trace the order. I am curious if anyone else has had a similar problem with their order, as well as if anyone may know of a way to contact Mr. Assli regarding this matter. This way only the rich can protect themselves. Come on, this is just a ridiculous statement. And in turn we can talk about the high alcoholism rate because of the legal accessibility of alcohol to kids in Germany. It is America's private ownership of guns that has kept us free.
