Originally I think Fairbairn and Applegate played around with pistol cartridges loaded with primers only that they would push through paraffin. These training rounds could be used indoors or in areas where ballistic backstops were not available. When I came on the job (20 years ago) we would stuff cotton balls in the casing instead of the wax. These cotton ball projectiles could be used close in but lacked accuracy or the ability to ascertain where, or if, the shooter hit. Code Eagle developed the technology of using a plastic casing, powered by a large pistol primer (velocity was about 400 f.p.s.), and a very thin plastic projectile containing marking compound (liquid detergent) that was slotted on top. Code Eagles could be fired out of a standard revolver. Upon impact, they would leave a star shaped mark that could be washed off. On bare skin they could leave an a bruise. Simuntions a company out of Canada came up with conversion kits that allowed the technology to be used in semi-auto pistols. Their product is known as FX Marking Cartridges Eye protection is mandantory and Simunitions has come up head gear and body gear to protect officers/role players. (Kind of looks like padded eskrima helmets and body gear.) Some tactical teams have had to completely redo their tactics when they tried Sims. E-mail me if you have other questions. KD ------------------------------ From: Loki Jorgenson Date: Fri, 2 Jun 2000 13:18:58 -0700 (PDT) Subject: eskrima: FMA Database - new Feature Hi all - as you may know, the FMA Database at http://www.pekiti-tirsia.org:8080/FMA/ hosts a database of instructors, organizations and a glossary of terms in the FMA. It's steadily growing and currently at 789 instructors 181 organizations 1725 terms We have just added a new section - FMA Feature Resources. The idea is to highlight new learning and training resources that are being offered commercially. IMHO the FMA community should try to support anyone who goes to the trouble of compiling good FMA materials. But it doesn't have to be commercial - a good resource being provided for free could be featured too. If anyone has a suggestion for a Feature Resource, please encourage whomever is responsible for it to contact us. Books, videos, equipment, on-line services/materials, etc. If you have any comments about this Feature feature, please send them as well. Our intention is to support the FMA community - which means supporting you. Tell us what you think. Coming soon (or at least eventually), database access to o vendors selling FMA supplies (complete with the option of consumers commenting on them) o FMA training events o FMA news We are grateful to our site sponsors who have helped make the Database happen: o Pekiti-Tirsia System Global Organization o Dog Brothers Inc. Did everyone that was going to send their bios in send it? What percentage of the total do the posters see AGGRESSIVENESS as? Aggressiveness as being "having the will and intent to take the other guys head off" and/or by the level of intensity that takes place? What about aggressiveness vs. calculation? Calculation being the calm and waiting opponent that will be waiting for you to fire it off and find your opening. Seeing two calculating opponents dual becomes interesting, two aggresive opponent becomes one awesome fight. ===== Check out our web page at http://www.fullcontacthi.com and visit Chad's Corner-Full Contact Stickfighting in Hawaii.
