What you call aggressiveness might be referred to as single mindness, sense of purpose or something else by others. When I see aggressiveness as a trait I see it in different contexts and therefore it has danger signals attached to it. There was an incident recently that I was involved in where a couple of people challenged my group in the street. I will relate it in context to the question and not out of bravado. Without hesitation I moved in on the main person and with both hands lifted them up by the neck and over a wall into some bushes. The fear and startled look in the persons face was enough to tell me that the fight was over. When released the guy and his two mates left the scene immediately stopping only to mouth some obscenities from a safe distance. During this incident several things took place. None of my group moved into the fight as they too were taken back by the single act of precision that took place. The guys that initiated the confrontation never got a hit off yet that was their intention. I use the terms in context to your question. The people I was with were all street fighters, one of which is a fighter of the highest order. The most important thing to me was that it didn't bother me at all. I wasn't agitated or bullish in attitude. It was as if the whole event took place within time and we returned to normal service the second later! The aggression you ask of was not snarling hate that we often assume in order to scare an opponent which often covers our own fears. It was simply all part of a reflex that took place when faced with a problem There was no warning of their intentions and so my reaction was one of pure singleminded reaction to the positive. This is the attribute we always would like to have. No standing off talking to each other trying to set up a hit while building up the courage to initiate the affray. As Hartsell's tees used to say "in the heart of danger you shall find safety." Forcing aggression implies to me a situation of trying to do things outwith of the natural. The problem here is that you are forcing something on top of whats there and it could take you down the wrong path. Kids trying to be tough get themselves in fights that when they mature to adults they would avoid. I have the confidence to know that in a streetfight that I turn on yet during sparring I hold back! If I get purposeful in sparring I can start to hold my own. If I go for outright aggression as I understand it I get picked off by a better opponent. When I look at Rickson Gracie before a fight in his video choke you can see aggression as part and parcel of his way. He doesn't need to force it. Its just part of his make up. The guys who forced it left the ring rather quickly. Just my thoughts.
