Not sure Dr. Gyi has a site, but there are a few bando pages around. More importantly, are you aware that Dr. Gyi will be conducting another full-day knife seminar Saturday, June 17, in NYC? But I already own his two most excelllent folder blades. They dont' fold, but the short blades are great for training. I don't see much value in a training blade folder that folds unless it actually moves and feels like a real folder. This is hard to do with a thick aluminum blade. If you've ever used a metal training tool, you'll appreciate the larger surface area if you intend to make a lot of contact. As for rubber blades, they don't feel right and break. ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Fri, 9 Jun 2000 12:25:33 -0700 (PDT) Subject: eskrima: Jack Dempsey book On yesterday's 1829 mile return flight from Illinois to California I had a chance to read an old classic, Championship Fighting: Explosive Punching and Aggresive Defence, by Jack Dempsey. First published in 1950, this book is a highly interesting description of Dempsey's, a former bar-room brawler and heavyweight boxing champion, thoughts on fist-fighting and boxing. His explanations of the 'perfect punch' and how to properly get your weight behind your punches were amazingly clear and well thought out. His 'left jolt' vs. the more typical left jab works amazingly well. He also makes the claim that the proper punch is performed with the last three kunckles of the fist verses the first two as typically used in the Karate-like styles. He makes the point that no one is a born puncher, but that anyone can learn to be an explosive puncher if they follow his prescription. He also makes the point that one must learn offense before attempting to learn defense as an aggressive defense must include counter-punching. All in all and excellent read and its 205 pages flew by (pun intended) in far less time than United required to make the journey.
