Which do you prefer? I wonder if there are any skeletal specialist on the list that could add info. to this??? For me I use finger tips, ANY part of my hand, my elbow, head, knee or just about anything I can find! :) Actually, I have always tried using the first two as a boxing coach once told me they were stronger. Profound. And, in my experience, accurate. (in response to the topic of trapping in the rain) "Try accomplishing your purpose with hits-- e.g. a hammerfist instead of an atapi/pak sao." I can't say that I'm entirely familiar with that terminology, but I can describe how I throw a trap. From practice and instruction, I have learned that a good trap should be thrown as a punch with the forearm/blade of the hand. Once contact is established, I turn my hand over and out, palm up, creating a 'waiter's hand' with which it is easier to guide an opponent's arm. After the initial contact and this readjustment, drive their arm across their body, preferrably through their hips. The goal is to break their balance a little bit and set up either a complete close or a smash with the stick/punyo and clear back out to serrada range; depending on whether I'm going in or out of the grapple. The first step works great, the second (though I can accomplish it) seems futile 'cause the third is nearly impossible. Someone suggested earlier practicing with baby oil. Good idea, but I still haven't found a way to make my traps the way I want them to. Maybe that's just a problem with physics. We've been training together now for three years and we are so 'inbred' it's ridiculous. As part of our search, we recently attending the sparring night at a local TKD school. DISCLAIMER: THE NEXT COMMENT IS NOT DIRECTED AT TKD IN GENERAL! They couldn't fight. And they wanted to charge us $50 a month to spar with them for about 30 minutes a week. So, we declined to return. The point of all this, is we're looking to set up one time a week to have an open session. Anyone's invited top attend, we can all learn from each other, and it'll be free. If you live in the Dallas area and you are interested in this or know someone who might be, please email me, we'd really appreciate either participation or suggestions on places to go for this.
