Thing is its like smoking. Some die of lung cancer and some puff away till they die at 110! Its personal and that way you are genetically made up. Your home equipment idea reminds me of a book I have which the guy - a doctor based in california - makes home equipment for training. Well worth the look. Home training its called I think but I'll follow up next week with the details of it. One example is that he rolls up a carpet and makes a false head and works his chokes etc. pat Aberdeen Martial Arts Group Web site * www.amag.fsbusiness.co.uk -----Original Message----- From: "Phil Tong" This is quite interesting discussion! I never considered the long term effects of striking the makiwara or the heavy bag let alone the angle of the striking fist since that was just the way we were taught you just did it. snip Another thing I do is strike a post in the garage. I put a piece of carpet over it to give it the feel of a ribcage. ------------------------------ From: Sam Beckett Date: Fri, 16 Jun 2000 10:13:26 -0700 (PDT) Subject: eskrima: target / tool The tread on fist positioning and striking surface has been very informative. One point I did not see anyone post is the simple rule of hard target / soft tool (ie; temple / palm) and soft target / hard tool (ie; throat / fist). The basics... Once I was explaining eye gouges in a youth self defense class and a student asked "but what if I break my finger". My response was "that should be your goal" __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Send instant messages with Yahoo!
