Now I have heard the > same comment all thru my martial arts training but in terms of life > experience it just simply doesn't hold true. Thinking about it, nearly all > fights I have participated in or witnessed the key ingredient was to > winning was aggression. Agression is a great substitute for skill. The goal of agression is to psychologically pump you up and deflate the other guy and make him psychologically freeze so that you can use your skills to their fullest. One's agression maximizes itself in one's own context or environment. That is familiarity and use of the environmental weapon cues. There is a balance between agression and skill. In your example above a "fighter" always beats a martial artist. However, a martial artist who is prepared on "all" levels to be a "fighter" will prevail with greater skill. Regards, Carlton H. We will go over defense against someone trying to drown you - whether maliciously or by someone you are trying to rescue. The class is about an hour long and open to any who wish to give it a go. However, please bring your brain and leave your ego at the door. Any misconduct will not be tolerated. This is a condensed version of a course developed last year by some local martial artists and Navy SEAL trainers. Please bring: An Extra Set of Street Clothes (yes, we will be in the pool while wearing street clothes), a towel, notebook and pen, cup (for men) and $15 for the facility fee (pay at the front desk). Also, please email me by 5PM Monday if you are planning on attending so we can get a head count. For directions to our facility, visit our website: www.guardup.com Hope to see you there. One simple one is to buy a good set of 28" rattan sticks and go from there. Ray will try to convince you of 24" or something measured from your armpit to some other body part. Chad will tell you that 1' steel pipes are definitely the way to go. The Crafty one will keep quiet then hit you with a 30" heavy rattan housecleaner. Great time, lot of knife drills teaching the basics of the OSS knife techniques from WWII. Had a chance to meet Tuhon Bill McGrath, and put a face to a name. We also had a refereed mock combat one on one. The referee said I had better techniques, but it is my belief that I would have been cut pretty bad anyway if it had been real. If any of you who haven't been to a seminar with this Grandmaster Gyi, find a way to go, you will not be disappointed. For many of us who believe we teach or train for life and death attacks, it is humbling to get instruction from Dr. Gyi if even for only a few hours.
