I am cleaning out my video closet to make room for some new stuff (smile) and am e-baying it all off. If you would like to take a look at it, I am getting rid of some of Hock Hochheim's tape series, Some of my Terry Gibson series, and lastly some of my Jim Keating series. The Keating tapes will go on the auction block sometime tomorrow. I'll post it then. Thanks! There should be a merging of the two. In class, I try to have the students practice with heart(agression). Example: Instead of practicing your technical close, practice closing like a linebacker behind a roof deflection or an outside deflection. Then work your technical aspect from there. > Perhaps your perception of your friends technical > skill was greater than his ability. Alot of questions come into this response, > I'll put my money on a well trained individual w/ the > proper attitude and commitment over any street punk or > ultra aggressive bar fool any day. What is your opinion of what makes up a "well trained individual"? If it is someone that has studied for 10 years and never been in a fight vs. the street thug who has walked the line, been stabbed, hit with bottles, etc., I'd go for the street thug. However if by "well trained" you meant someone that does sparring, etc. and the street punk is someone of lesser level intelligence(overall), than I agreee with you. OK, to liven things up here...here comes one of those questions. What do the members from both an instructors POV and/or a students POV think about training a students technical game and then introducing them to the "agression" or "unwilling agressor as their opponent"/sparring outlook. (The difference I see between the two is that it is easy to see what is easy and harder to do during a sparring match vs. almost anything is easy to do while you feed me that angle. Ex: Close range is often taught first, but when the student first spars, long range is what is usually fought because it usually "feels" more natural) Anyways, that top option of teaching vs. teaching the students the "sparring" or "less technical, etc., etc." first, and then gradually bringing them into the "technical" game. This is not a start on the "full contact or not" thread, or the "largo mano vs. corto" thread, but I am curious as to see some intelligent opinions on this matter. BTW, I clicked on the Korean instead of the Filipino on Ray Terry's web site, and talk about Twilight Zone. Eerie. I recognized everything, yet all the words were different. So spooky, I had to back out of the page. Check it out, you'll see what I mean. Sorry, the web site is down, we are changing host and got accidentally shut down too early, be back up in a little. For now, the only two pages up are the new T-shirts at http://www.geocities.com/stuigarta/products.htm and the videos at http://www.geocities.com/stuigarta/index.html Sorry, will let everyone know when we are back up. BTW, thanks for the kind words, Phil. ===== Chad Full Contact Stickfighting Hawaii http://www.fullcontacthi.com "What one man would or would not do, does not mean another should or should not do." __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I've heard about a couple events in Wisconsin (I think they were WEKAF sponsored) but didn't get the info until the week before the event. If anyone who sponsors these types of events would please add me to their mailing list, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!
