From watching his latest fight he's got aggression to spare. Not the standard run of the mill "I want to win" aggression but the full on "junk yard dog" type. 10 years ago he always impressed me with how hard he was to hit. Before he went inside I feel his skill level peaked, after he got out he just wasn't the same. No doubt he was extremely aggressive but he didn't appear to be able to cause enough damage with his punches. When he bit Holyfield it was pretty clear that Holyfield was going to win anyway. Holyfield's boxing technique was more aggessive and it won out against Tyson's pure aggression. IMO Tysons got the potential to win another title, his skill level is down but his punches appear to have the old bite back in them. He just appears more hungry (no pun intended) then when he went up against Holyfield. Against whom is he going to win it? He's no contest for Lennox Lewis. Tyson has lost it completely having punched Frank Warren the promoter on Tuesday last, and then trained at the lowest possible level. Surrounded by yes men who are too afraid to tell him the truth as he just throws tantrum after tantrum. The latest fight was a farce where he blatantly ignored the referee and the opponent dived after the first hook. It is reported - not that that is to be believed - that he hardly trained and was eating curries the night before the fight! He may attack now with pure aggression but Lewis wouldn't be afraid of that having out boxed Holyfield twice. Hed pick Tyson off. Until Tyson fights credible opponents rather than doing a money raising freak show tour against poor opposition then he will never be prepared. Lewis has the problem of not having a credible challenger either who can really test him. Tyson has run from Lewis, thing is by the time he comes to the ring he may be a tired man. The guilt of which will be firmly on the shoulders of those who exploited him. pat ------------------------------ From: "Steven Lefebvre" Date: Mon, 26 Jun 2000 07:08:38 PDT Subject: eskrima: Kali Seminar in NH For the first time in New Hampshire, Sayoc Kali will be presented by, Tuhon Chris Sayoc and family. There isn't much else to do and MTV gets real boring real fast :D >Competence as way of being represents a clear intent matched with a knowing that we will produce a certain result. There is a commitment and a velocity to producing a particular result without an attachment to how it is achieved. It wouldn't be an IESA thing, or an Inayan thing, or anything for that matter, and it wouldn't be to try to one-up or out demo any other group or groups. Plain and simple, just a gathering to showcase what we all do...It's not about money, but promoting what we all do, which is all good. We've all talked about how it would be great to see what so-and-so does in such-and-such art, even how each group of Serrada does their thing. It would be a win-win situation, where we could all meet, see what we do, and show what we do to the public...Charities would benefit, networks would be established,... << That would be great! Since we're now in the SF Bay Area, we'll certainly support this. Thanks to Sensei Carlos De Leon and his Academy of Martial Arts, the International Philippine Martial Arts Federation will begin holding classes in Kombatan, the art of Grandmaster Ernesto Presas, every Monday and Friday night beginning with the first Monday in July. For those unfamiliar with Kombatan, it is comprised of: Solo Baston, Doble Baston, Espada y Daga, Daga, Daga sa Daga, Doble Daga, Dulo-Dulo, Bankaw, Mano-Mano, Dumog, Sipa-an, Dos Puntas, and Tres Puntas. Within each category, disarms, locks, and takedowns are a standard part of the curriculum. Think it's a lot? It should be! GM Ernesto Presas spent 30 years developing his system and it was only a few years ago that he considered it "complete". This system was not devloped by just by picking up a technique here, picking up a technique there, and putting them together. He built this system from the ground up through countless hours of analysis, experimentation, what-if scenarios, and actual combat. (In his analysis and experimentation, I think he went through essentially what Steve Drape discussed in one of his articles re discovery and rediscovery in the Filipino martial arts.) The end product of GM Ernesto's efforts is one tightly integrated system that is really, really, de! ep and is second to none in deadly effectiveness --just like all other FMA systems, right? :-) >>...questions would be asked and answered.<< Until the day Bob's great vision comes true, all martial art practitioners are welcome to drop by our new school and we'll share with you what we can. In the old Philippine Martial Arts Academy & Cultural Center (run by a diverse group of MA practitioners up in Vallejo, CA), there was a sign at the front door that read: "You will always be welcome here, as a spectator or a participant, as long as you demonstrate RESPECT for yourself, RESPECT for others, RESPECT for your culture, RESPECT for other cultures, RESPECT for your martial art style, respect for other styles. Failure to do so will result in your being tossed out the door (RESPECTFULLY, of course)." The same will apply here. We will be at Sensei (Carlos is a 5th degree blackbelt in Kenpo) Carlos de Leon's Academy of Martial Arts, 3442 Clayton Road, Concord, CA 94519 (Tel: 925-827-5993) Monday and Friday nights for the remainder of June just to meet other practitoners and field questions regarding Kombatan. Classes will start in earnest on the first Monday of July (July 3rd). ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Mon, 26 Jun 2000 15:02:03 PDT Subject: eskrima: . ------------------------------ End of Inayan_Eskrima/FMA-Digest V7 #308 **************************************** To unsubscribe from the eskrima-digest send the command: unsubscribe eskrima-digest -or- unsubscribe eskrima-digest your.old@address in the BODY of an email (top line, left justified) addressed to majordomo@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com.
