The URL is: http://www.pendekar.com I think that there are a fair number of people who are on both lists. Publisher Michael A. DeMarco responded that they,re very interested in receiving and publishing articles on the martial arts of the Philippines and the surrounding area, but the problem was in finding qualified writers. (For those of you unfamiliar with JAMA, it is (at least to my knowledge) the most prestigious and scholarly martial arts periodical (published quarterly) publication in the world today. Nothing seems to published that cannot be backed up with references and professional quality photographs & illustrations. ) I don,t know if it was the direct result of Daniel,s inquiry, but in the upcoming issue of the Journal, Mike is publishing their guidelines for writers wishing to submit articles to them. This same issue will contain an article on Indonesian Kuntaw (in the Philippines, we have the Kuntaw of Grandmaster Carlito Lanada), as well as reviews of a couple of FMA books (from Germany). This is a great opportunity for promoting FMA and the other Southeast Asian martial arts, so pick up the upcoming issue of JAMA (I buy mine at Tower Records. If it,s not available in your area, go to their website at www.goviamedia.com and subscribe!), start writing those articles that you,ve always wanted to write, and submit them! At first, I was concerned about the potential flood of inaccuracies and garbage that may result; but I,ll leave it to the JAMA staff to separate the pearls from the faux. Guro Joey Paman, a successful freelance writer who has had many martial articles published in the other magazines told me he would write one. (Joey is an original member ARJUKEN founded by Grandmaster Ernesto A Presas, long before GM founded the International Philippine Martial Arts Federation). Atty. Joseph Arriola and Guro Steven Drape ) How about writing some also?. (Both Joe and Eskrima Digest list member Steven are FMA instructors who are also successfully published.) Guro Dave Duccay ) You,re currently writing a book that touches on the Filipino flow in Kajukenbo. Perhaps you can send excerpts to Jama? Also, please forward this notice to the folks on your e-mail list. Thanks. (Dave is or was the West Coast Director for Doce Pares; he is now an "indie" film producer, --feature length movies but open to filming martial art documentaries). Professor Frank Ricardo ) I know Mike would just love the thesis you are currently writing! Perhaps you can send it, something similar to it, to JAMA. (Among other things, Frank is an FMA practitioner who trains Special Ops trainers in hand-to-hand combat; i.e., he trains trainers). All ) Feel free to forward the above info to your FMA friends who are not on the Digest. Thanks! Have a safe and enjoyable 4th of July! Ray & the Inayan Serrada group ) Thanks again for maintaining this Digest!
