Marinas Sr. Founder, Pananandata to post this message. Peter Sampogna I have received a number of inquiries on the availablity of certified instructors of pananandata. The following is the list in alphabetical order: 1. Guro Spencer Gee 2. Guro Ueli Laeng 3. Guro Eric Leigh 4. Guro Amante P. Marinas Jr. 5. Guro Robert Mulligan 6. Guro Tracy Pierce 7. Guro Ralph White To protect my name and the reputation of pananandata, the following are the requirements for certification 1. Seven years (7) of actual training, not the mere passing of time. 2. Passing of required test after 7 years of training. 3. Yearly renewal of certification. 4. Yearly updating of skills. 5. Good moral character. If you are interested in learning pananandata, please ask if the person claiming to be a representative of my system have satisfied the 5 requirements listed above.. If they do not, then they are neither certified in pananandata nor authorized to teach pananandata. Ask the person to show you his/her certificate. (Pananandata has only one female instructor, Guro Tracy Pearce.) The above certified instructors are instructed to show you their certificates. The certificate must carry the date January of the current year. Thank you. Signed: Amante P. Marinas Sr. Author/Founder, Pananandata. ------------------------------ From: Kel620@aol.com Date: Tue, 4 Jul 2000 11:16:53 EDT Subject: eskrima: Re: Misc. "Do the FMA "live" blades come with scabbards? Just wondering because yep you guessed it I have once again nicked myself practicing the balisong. Was doing pretty good with two blades concurrently one opening, one closing till went back to single and lost track of the safe handle, doh! Appears I need to add some respect for the blade in addition to my fearless attitude! It all happened in just a split second and lovely bleeder right on the knuckle which means that hand is off the bag till it heals. Forget about gripping an escrima too unless use three finger grip? Drats." Phil, To prevent further injuries with your balisong, tape the edge with some masking tape. Apply about 3 layers of tape to the blade's edge. You can also dull the edge a bit before you put on the tape. When you get more confident and practice some more you can remove the tape. If you're learning a new technique later on, put the tape back on. Most of the Filipino swords I've seen come with a wooden scabbard. Check out Kris Cutlery. They have pictures of some Filipino swords. http://www.invis.com/kriscutlery/sandata.html Hope this helps, Kelvin Williams ------------------------------ From: "Eckzahn Phoenixviertel" Date: Tue, 4 Jul 2000 21:13:27 +0200 Subject: eskrima: Fire hardened sticks Hello! Is there anybody on the list who can tell me how to fire harden my sticks? I've heard a lot about treating rattansticks with fire makes them harder. Is there any special way to do this- does anybody know how the old Escrimadores did it? Thanks Tim ------------------------------ From: "Dave & Heather Fulton" Date: Tue, 4 Jul 2000 16:13:46 -0400 Subject: eskrima: Re: Equipment Bags A great bag that I found is the bat/equipment bags used by baseball/softball players. The bat compartment on mine can hold more than six pairs of sticks up to approx. 36" and the large main compartment has plenty of room to hold a change of clothes, training shoes, lacrosse gloves, bag gloves, forearm pads, shin pads, sweat-towels, protective eye wear, etc. There's even a separate zipper compartment inside the main compartment that holds my keys, wallet, watch and a few knives. It even has a shoulder strap for convenient carry. It's also nice because it doesn't attract any unwanted attention like most MA's bags do. Mine is pretty standard and the only thing I can't fit in it is a fencing mask, but have seen some since purchasing mine that look like they'd hold one. I feel like training today but I'm temporarily sidelined with a severed flexor tendon in my right hand from blade training. Had surgery a week ago yesterday and it looks good so far. The ED has to satisfy my FMA urges for a while. Train well & be safe.
