This is done in the old fashioned way. First you got to get good old sticks and not those young ones which are soft. Then, basically what you do is soak your sticks in water or muddy water prefereably until the time that it sinks to the bottom. It has to sink! and then take your sticks out and let them dry. Simply yet effective. It is very effective for rattan sticks but it would take a longer time for other hard sticks li > > Nguyen ------------------------------ From: BillyJa695@aol.com Date: Mon, 10 Jul 2000 00:03:34 EDT Subject: eskrima: Re: TV Special Damn, coming from Vee JJ, I would have loved to have seen this tv show. I wish that I had known in advance that this program was going to be on so that I would set the VCR. Anyone here know if this is going to be repeated ? The info would be much appreciated. Partner slaps the shin with leather thai pad and you have to remain in balance. After the first minute it will numb and you last the two minutes. Change to other legs. You can touch the floor between slaps if you have to. Nothing beats the shin conditioning as repetitive hitting. One student of mine moved to train with master Sken in England and became LH British champion. He had a decent kick and good shins. He then moved to New Zealand and visited Thailand. On a visit recently I was shocked by his powerful kicking and rock hard shins. He said that it came from his Thailand encounter where he learnt the trick of after finishing the x ammount of round kick rounds you just do more. Simple really. pat Aberdeen Martial Arts Group Web site * www.amag.fsbusiness.co.uk ------------------------------ From: Kendal Coats Date: Mon, 10 Jul 2000 07:47:09 -0700 (PDT) Subject: eskrima: Re: Inayan_Eskrima/FMA-Digest V7 #326 <<<< Date: Mon, 10 Jul 2000 09:09:41 PDT Subject: eskrima: Re: FMA on The Learning Channel >From: Sidney525@aol.com >Date: Sun, 9 Jul 2000 04:56:50 EDT >Subject: eskrima: FMA on The Learning Channel > >I caught and videotaped the last hour of a 2 hour documentary on the This documentary seems similar to the a documentary done by the BBC some years ago called "The way of the warrior" there is a companion book with it (I think Mike Finn is on the cover). (EDIT) >Further, and what I found really irritating because it perpetuates FMA as >not >a complete art, was that they emphasized the stick and knife aspect, and >then >the documentary went on to say how FMA has borrowed empty hands techniques >from Judo and karate. This is not entirely false statement. Lots of styles of FMA seem not to have an empty hand component or at least a highly developed one. Many arnis and eskrima masters used Karate or Judo as there primary empty hand art (or at least to supplement it). If you read Edgar Suilte book Masters of Kali Arnis, Eskrima you will see lots of example e.g. Cacoy Canete, Doc Lengson, Jose Mena... Which brings up another point why do they prefer Karate/Judo/Kung fu over the empty hand arts of the Philippines? Any ideas ?
