Do a search on the Internet and you will find it for yourself. "I have read in some martial arts publications that he didn't practice the Filipino martial arts such as Eskrima and Kali, and he therefore didn't integrate these arts into his personal system of Jeet Kune Do. While this is true, he was exposed to Filipino martial arts many times by me and, although he may not have put it into his personal system of combat, he did on many occasions practice with me the single stick, double stick and olisi toyuk (nunchaka). Many people say I taught him the olisi toyuk (nunchaka), single stick and double stick. I like to say I shared with him and demonstrated and practiced with him. We also experimented with light sparring with single stick, double stick and olisi toyuk. So, in my opinion, he practiced the Eskrima and Kali on a small scale to research it, and to put elements of the nunchakas, double stick and single stick in his movies. " < One should keep in mind that Bruce was very, VERY close friends with Dan Inosanto. As solid and polished a practitioner of the FMA as Dan is, having learned from a veritable who's who of a pantheon of eskrimadors as he has, you would imagine that Bruce Lee would have been very eager to learn what he could from him, being such a sponge that he was.>> pat Aberdeen Martial Arts Group Web site * www.amag.fsbusiness.co.uk ------------------------------ From: Joe Marszalek Date: Thu, 13 Jul 2000 08:30:31 -0700 (PDT) Subject: Re: eskrima: Bruce Lee > From: Saturbo@aol.com > Date: Thu, 13 Jul 2000 03:30:59 EDT > Subject: eskrima: Bruce Lee > > Watched the tape again last night, and I noticed > that > the policeman student stated that Bruce Lee used > Escrima for his weapons scenes > > One should keep in mind that Bruce was very, VERY > close friends with Dan > Inosanto. I remember Guro Dan stating a few years ago that he showed Bruce some of the basic concepts/techniques of Kali one time. The next day Bruce comes back and shows Guro Dan the way he would fight with the stick. Apparently from the little Guro Dan showed Sigung Bruce, Bruce developed a pretty encompassing approach to stick fighting in a day or so. Once again Guro Dan was impressed with Sigung's thought process. From Guro Dan's talk it sounded like that was the extent of their Kali exchange. Good to see the debates are still going strong. Firstly, I have updated the Progressive Kali/Eskrima Assoc. website, please go to http://www.home-cov.demon.co.uk/pkes/default.htm There are some pics of the students training in the gallery and pictures have no been added to the 12 count pattern to show the targets. They are shown by our Guro, Lucky Madahar. We are hoping to get things moving a bit on the site over the summer while the universities are off so stay tuned. Also, training in Coventry has been changed with the Universities on vacation. Class times are now as follows, published times will resume in October: Wednesday 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. Sunday 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. Venue: Foleshill Road Community Centre Folehill Road Foleshill Coventry If you are looking for directions email me. And now for the questions: Q1) Has anybody read the Loriega book from Paladin on Spanish Blade fighting? Any Opinions? I believe it is called Sevillian Steel and thought it may be worth buying for background content if folks think it usefull. Q2) Do any UK list members know of any suppliers for alu training blades and swords (And real swords). I'm particularly looking for Barong, Kampilan and a Kris with the correct handle form, not straight but bent. Email me with any contacts. Thanks in advance. Q3) Pat/Bill - Do you have websites? And just in closing: Jon - If you think you are going to smash my sticks up with a crow bar forget it. That's what disarms and defangs are for!! Use it for twirling and carenza. Thanks folks. I'll leave you all with a little quote from a Dick Marcinko novel: "The harder you sweat in training, the less you bleed in combat" Scott Wiggins Scoota@bigfoot.com Progressive Eskrima/Kali Assoc. ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Thu, 13 Jul 2000 15:56:50 PDT Subject: Re: eskrima: An Update and a Few Questions > Q1) Has anybody read the Loriega book from Paladin on Spanish Blade > fighting?
