I'll be traveling on business to Phoenix area almost every 3 months - I'm looking for training partners or FMA schools or JKD schools I can visit while I'm there. I am also only a 3 hour drive from San Diego and would also be interested in training out there periodically. Email me if you are interested. Please email me at: htmlupdate@prodigy.net PS.....I know it's a shot in the dark, but I'm very interested in seeing more of the Pekiti-Tersia method or any other method that has a lot of emphasis on the knife and/or Espada Y Daga. Being an Inosanto Blend FMA type I've been exposed to a lot - but I haven't studied a lot of different systems, and I'd like to do that now. Thanks in advance, Joe McCray ------------------------------ From: Jon Spencer Date: Fri, 14 Jul 2000 18:06:41 -0400 (EDT) Subject: eskrima: sparring Hi everyone, Chad,I will be visiting hawaii and am looking forward to meeting you guys and would like to try and work in some training withyou guys if you'll allow me to. Could you e-mail me nad let me know if this is ok. Ive never done this type of sparring and am approaching it with apprehension, but from the Dog Brother videos that I have seen and the videos on FullContactHI web site, I see that you have to conquer your fear along with having good progression in the training that you do, very much the way you described it on your training and discussion group page and in the articles you wrote. I will probably be heading out there in August and hopefully there wont be too many pictures of me showing off my bruises-hehe. My second question is to all of the people that do full contact stick fighting. I seems like alot of people dont support this type of training and I wonder how do the masters and grand masters feel about this. Like Angel Carbales, Ben Largusa, and others that have done real death matches. There are some masters that mentioned in Dan Inosantos book that says they do this. Does Dan Inosanto, I haven't had the pleasure of meeting him yet ut I'll make it there soon, ever go out to the Dog Brothers Gatherings? How does he feel about this? Thanks all!!! (BTW: I recently acquired a Phoenix baton and it is very light compared to the ASP I have...much easier to carry around) Our business sells quite a few batons. We have not seen any Monadnock ball bearing models returned in the few years they have been available. Can't say the same thing for the Phoenix nylon expandables though. The ball bearing models seen to be as tough as the ASP's, & now are available in a few sizes larger than the original 20" I still carry my 21" alum ASP. Ken Grubb Lacey, WA -- Just outside Olympia - -----Original Message----- From: Don Robinson Sent: Friday, July 14, 2000 23:24 To: concealed@egroups.com; Knife List; TKC-L Subject: [concealed] A sad gun and knife story 8>D I went to the hospital this morning for an MIR of my head. (They are trying to find some memory or something in there). The young lady technician casually asked me if I had any metal on me, or false teeth; and asked for my glasses. Since I assumed they would only be concerned with my head, I answered no, except for a couple of gold teeth. Again, understand that I didn't think that anything I had in my pockets would interfere. Things like my pocket gun, keys, CUSTOM made locking liner knife (Note that's >CUSTOM > knife) The knifemaker's initials are D.R. , and belt buckle. Well, to get on with the story, she started me into the machine and something grabbed my pants and wouldn't let go. I told her my pants were caught on the machine, so she said "SHIT!) and backed me out real fast. I stuck my hand in my pocket and realized the <<>> Resonance Imaging machine had just tried to confiscate my pocket gun. She asked me again if I had any metal on me. I pulled the gun out of my pocket ( a stainless steel .32 auto in a pocket holster) and tried to hand it to her, but my wife got to it before she did. My head was still strapped down in the cage, and I couldn't see the technician. At this point, I fully expected to hear loud screaming and cries for help, security guards running in with weapons drawn, and general bedlam. Anyways, the girl said very calmly, "That'll do it". Then she calmly asked me if I had any other weapons on me. I tried to hand her my knife , but it wasn't clipped inside my watch pocket like it should have been. I told her the machine had eaten my knife, took off my belt, and gave my wife my keys. So we looked for the knife. When she asked me (calmly and politely) to get off the table, the knife fell on the floor. It's a fairly large black handled knife, meant more for work or other meanness than what you might expect a fancy fine looking old gentleman like me to carry. The young lady bent over, (calmly) picked up that big black mean looking knife and handed it to me. Well, when she had pulled me out of the machine to keep it from ripping my pants the rest of the way off, she went too fast and part of the carriage stayed in the machine. I broke their machine. 8>( They called in a repairman, politely escorted me back the to front desk, and re-scheduled my MRI for next week. My wife and I walked out with great dignity, expecting to be arrested before we got to the car. But we weren't, and so far today no cops have come to my door. I just watched the 6:00 o'clock news to see if they might be looking for me. Not even a mention. I guess my 15 minutes of fame will come later. 8>D Maybe tomorrow? 8>( If that young lady still works there next week, I'm going to look her up and compliment her on her tolerance for an old man and her coolness under fire. She must have had a lot of brothers. I will, that is, if they ever let me in the door again. I'll bet they recognize me when I go back next week (if I'm not incarnated). Maybe I should have my wife hold onto my weapons when I get on that table again. They may not take any more chances, though, and make me strip naked. And then again, I might forget and wear my Colt 1911 .45. That might be even more interesting! Life is fun sometimes! I sure hope nobody hears about this, though.
