It >seems to me that the zoning and immediate 3 second kill would have to >take place as soon as sticks tap or else someone is going to be in for >a bum weekend. We have done two-on-two a little, which might simulate a battle among groups. Another way to do it, which might make it more realistic for situations in the modern world, is to have two acting to protect one vs. two or more attackers. The way we do it is to start at one end of the room (it's a big room, but outside would work as well), and the goal is to escort the unarmed individual to the other side, through the attackers. Things get intense quickly, and the unarmed person has his own responsibilities. He must be very aware of not just the attackers, but where his defenders are, and he often ends up crawling and scooting across the floor in an attempt to survive. It's a good (and fun!) exercise, which I feel teaches some concepts about zoning and cutting off an opponent from where they want to go that one-on-one doesn't cover. In a normal class group, we wear helmets, gloves, pads and use plastic bats instead of sticks, but it could be done using sticks and much less padding for groups who aren't concerned with the liability question. It was located at "www.serrada.de" and had some excellent vidcaps as well as links. Now, it's just a page with a short message from Master Tacosa and no links. Anybody know what's up? My guess is that masters were more reluctant to teach in the past than they are now, mainly because of the possibility that their own techniques could be used against them. That's why most masters would rather keep their techniques within the family. But then you asked previously, what about villages, especially during the Spanish era? Wouldn't a master share his knowledge with an entire village? If a village was in constant threat from an outside source, probably. But within a village, rivalries happen between families, thus comes the threat "ubusan ng lahi" (genocide). These days, things are more civil. A master no longer fears that his techniques will be used against him in combat, therefore is more open to teach the art. > I know that Dr. Jose Rizal and Andres Bonifacio trained Arnis. Isnīt > there anything for example on the writings of Rizal, that could help in > answering this question? I know Rizal took up fencing since there was a picture of him executing a lunge. I also read of an account of him being an above average pistol shooter. Some people point to the Rizal Arnisadores (not Arnis Adores as presented in the Lionheart vids), however, Inoy Baiza said that the name was based mainly on the locale (Rizal province) where the style was practiced.
