Buchanan Taylor Boxing by Viscount Knebworth Bareknuckles: A Social History of prize fighting by Dennis Brailsford (You might to investigate or do some reading in Fencing: The theory and practice of fencing by Castello, etc) When I teach bare knuckle arts, I have an reading list for those who want to go into the history and techniques in depth. If you email I can help you with that( as well as steer you to books that show specific techniques). Are you looking into bare knuckle technique or modern methods or the progression from one to the other.? Websites have bits and pieces. www.Hickoksports.com--they have little bits that might be helpful Tracy Callis ---research@cyberboxingzone.com--might be helpful for more contemporary items I would contact Elliot J. I have found a number of books but they are not as detailed as I am looking for. Is anyone aware of websites or any persons who would be considered boxing historians that I could contact. Thanks Sid Hello Sid, here is a link to the search page for the Journal of Sports History, a free scholarly journal that has a fair number of articles on boxing. While a bit academic in tone, I like it. There is a really good article on 18th century boxing, though most of the articles on boxing fall into the time period in which you are interested. http://www.aafla.org/SportsLibrary/JSH.htm Marco ------------------------------ From: "hec" Date: Fri, 28 Jul 2000 09:37:14 -0700 Subject: eskrima: Instructors near USC Does anyone know of any instructors in the near USC in Southern California? I am going to buy some head protection for stickfighting and was hoping that I could get some opinions or recommendations. Should I go with a street hockey style helmet, a fencing mask, or something else? Also, can anyone provide some inexpensive sources for head protection? Any opinions, suggestions, or recommendations will be appreciated. The quality is as good if not better than Edges2 in my opinion, and less expensive. ------------------------------ From: Kenpokaratepa@aol.com Date: Fri, 28 Jul 2000 22:02:54 EDT Subject: eskrima: difference in styles Ive been reading the ED for several months and this is my first post. My only experiance with sticks is in the arnis style. We play around with it in class and i've also taken a seminar with Grandmaster Remy Presas. My question is how does eskrima differ from arnis? I've been told that arnis blends well with Parker style kenpo which is what i study. but there so many styles. I'm not sure what makes each one unique. ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Fri, 28 Jul 2000 20:31:40 PDT Subject: eskrima: . ------------------------------ End of Inayan_Eskrima/FMA-Digest V7 #366 **************************************** To unsubscribe from the eskrima-digest send the command: unsubscribe eskrima-digest -or- unsubscribe eskrima-digest your.old@address in the BODY of an email (top line, left justified) addressed to majordomo@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com.
