At the time, he was VERY Serrada oriented, although he was studying and had studied several Filipino and non-Filipino martial arts systems. He had been traveling out to California to train personally under Angel Cabales and was the last person to have received Master ranking before Angel's death. His skills that I observed at the time were very good, although I have no idea what he has been doing (skill-wise) for the past seven or eight years. But he was very legit back then. Hope this helps... Certainly you don't believe that this mode of dress would make you all look 'tough', and if you do why?. I can't imagine that you would do this to elevate your 'attitudes' to seek or provoke confrontations, would you? Your post suggests by 'going out together, and coming back together' that your wild tribe will be out on the hunt as a pack of over done middle aged women who need to costume up to have a good time. Evidently you will be building up your courage during a defense seminar, then taking to the streets in a drunken rampage dressed like a bunch of wanna be freaks. Your comment "wouldn't be caught dead in" also concerns me (from my pulpit!). You slam people who choose to look or dress in this way (leather and spandex don't mix!) Can't you ladies all go out and have a nice time together, sharing your experiences and partying w/ out the fake tattoos? I don't mean to sound so derogatory, help me understand what purpose you wish to serve. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Kick off your party with Yahoo! The style or sport they were advocating was Chambara, as they put it "the closest you can get to REAL Japanese Sword Fighting". Anyways, the weapons are really more like pillows, (best used for marriage counseling). And it was really more like tag than fighting. Nice guys though. All those in the Bay Area should come to the next Gasshuku if you have a chance, for that matter anyone who can make it. Attendees came from all over the states and a few from England. There is a great diversity of arts represented at this event. This year one of the new faces most subscribers on the digest would recognize was one of the De Thours (sp?) brothers. Beatiful stuff and he had a great approach to presenting info in a fun and informative way. Of course there were other memorable people to see and learn from, but you should come and see it for yourself. Seems like the San Jose Gasshuku is always one of the better held secrets... :) Ray Terry raymail@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com ------------------------------ From: "AUSTIN3_16" Date: Mon, 31 Jul 2000 12:41:18 -0800 Subject: eskrima: RE: Inayan_Eskrima/FMA-Digest V7 #369 I'm curious as well... I have not seen Mr. Wiley's Serrada, but I do know a Serrada person that has (not from the group that Angel trained during his long illness toward the end of his life). That person indicated that Wiley's Serrada was very good. Not perfect, not excellent, no claim to be the 'fastest eskrimador in the West', but that his Serrada was good and solid and that he was a nice friently person. I'll also mention that GM Vincent (Head and Grandmaster of Cabales Serrada Escrima) mentioned to me that Wiley was one of the few to actually complete his required training after Angel died. Several had received the cert from Angel, but had not completed their training prior to Angel's passing.
