He has several CD's centering around tribal hand drumming. They are all just great. I also recommend Mickey Hart and Jim McGrath. If you want some synthesized rhythms, try Herbie Hancock's "Dis Is Da Drum". Funky. If anyone else has some favorites, let me know. I am always looking for new rhythms. Tom Skoglind tskoglin@schmitt-title.com ------------------------------ From: "Tom Skoglind" Date: Fri, 18 Aug 2000 10:37:49 -0500 Subject: eskrima: drums I forgot to mention Scott Fitzgerald. He has a couple of CDs that are Native American based and incorporate more background instruments, but are pretty good. If you can only get a couple, go with Brent Lewis. "Thunder Down Under" and "Jungle Moon" are a little more mellow, while "Rhythm Hunter", "Earth Tribe Rhythms" (I & II), "Pulse" and "Monkey Hip Gumbo" really groove. You can also find some drummers - bodhran, ashiko, djembe, dumbek, any other "ethnic" drums - and get a few of them together to play, or else record something for you. This may not be feasible unless you have some friends who'll do it for fun - I suckered my two brothers (both musicians) into drumming with me (Bodhran ,djembe & ashiko) to make a "rounds" tape for the club. My elder bro has recording gear - 4 track and microphones, and then fiddled around with machines, wires & tape deck to make a recording. Also go to your local independant music retailer and go through the world beat sections - latin, african, middle-eastern, indian stuff might be helpful - if nothing else you might find some wicked tunes... :) jocelyne ------------------------------ From: "marc santini" Date: Fri, 18 Aug 2000 15:33:59 -0400 Subject: eskrima: Fw: Drum Music More good drum music..... Honestly the forms for Espada Ya Daga are meant for the sand as we know..... and the extra work that goes into your legs and body from the sand work and the flow drills in the sand as well give a much more Authentic feel and flow to the art...... its a must and anyone that has the chance even just to walk the beach and work the sticks in the sand should spend at least a few hours a week doing so....... ********* Date: Thu, 17 Aug 2000 20:01:39 -0700 (PDT) Subject: eskrima: Drum music ********* Again I am totally Spoiled by God My son though I cant reach him the next few months as he is on sojourn across the united states playing Bard and growing his last few months before he reaches the age of 21 " grin on New years eve at 11:52 pm " He is a Musician, he is a middle eastern drummer and a violinist..... do a search for Dunbec and Middle eastern meditative music....... and if you have not found what you need by Midnight 2001 let me know my son will be arriving for his 21st and back from sojourn he will have many resources and I intend to get some of his freestyle meditative dunbec drum music down to teach with and of course the plan to drag him around making him play for my students as we train in the sand, is on the agenda....
